Hansi-seong (韓始城) appeared only once during the Na-Tang War and was not mentioned thereafter. In July 672, the Tang army was stationed in Pyongyang and, in the following month, that is in August, they attacked Hansi-seong and Maup-seong (馬邑城). Maup-seong, which appears with Hansi-seong, is currently being designated as Seohak-san (棲鶴山) on the north coast of the Daedong River. Hansi-seong is presumed to be a military base located between Pyongyang and Maup-seong. It is highly likely that it was a nodule for amphibious traffic in connection with the defense of the Daedong River waterway. Additionally, based on the frequency of mention, it is estimated to be smaller than Maeup-seong. Accordingly, Jeokdusan-seong (赤頭山城), where Kim Bu-sik was stationed during the rule of the Goryeo Dynasty, is being considered. Jeokdusan-seong is also known as Jeokdu-seong or Seosan-seong (西山城), and it is usually located at the point where the river waterway and the Daedong River waterway merge, so that ships and manpower can be controlled to and from this area. According to the map of the Joseon Dynasty or the Japanese colonial period, the area of Jeokdusan-seong was located at the point across the river that crossed the Botong river and connected to the outer castle of Pyongyang-seong. Considering the construction method of Jeokdusan-seong and the processing method of stonework, the initial construction period dates back to Goguryeo. Before and after the pre-modern era, it was an important military point to the extent that batteries were installed. It is possible that the name “韓始城” itself was chosen in connection with “箕子.” Considering the location conditions of Hansi-seong, Jeokdusan-seong, located west of Pyongyang-seong, is considered to be the most suitable. Based on Pyongyang-seong, Jeokdusan-seong was located across the Botong river to the west, and Daeseongsan-seong was located across the Hapjang River to the east, defending the capital of Goguryeo.

한시성은 나당전쟁기에 단 한 차례 등장하고 더 이상 확인되지 않는 지명이다. 672년 7월 당군은 평양에 주둔하였고, 다음 달인 8월에 한시성과 마읍성을 공격하 였다. 한시성과 함께 등장하는 마읍성은 현재 대동강 북안의 서학산 일대로 비정 되고 있다. 당군이 평양에서 한시성을 거쳐 마읍성을 공격한 것으로 보아, 한시성 은 평양과 마읍성 사이에 위치한 군사 거점으로 추정된다. 대동강 수로 방어와 연 계되어 수륙 교통의 결절지였을 가능성이 높다. 또한 언급 빈도를 통해 볼 때 마읍 성에 비해서는 소규모로 추정된다. 이와 관련하여 고려시기 김부식이 주둔했던 적 두산성이 주목된다. 적두산성은 적두성 혹은 서산성이라 불리는데, 보통강 수로와 대동강 수로가 합수하는 지점에 위치하여 이 일대를 오가는 선박과 인력을 통제할 수 있다. 조선시대나 일제시기 지도를 통해 보면, 적두산성 일대는 보통강을 건너 평양성 외성으로 이어지는 도하지점이었다. 적두산성의 축조방식이나 성돌가공방 법 등을 감안하면 초축시기는 고구려로 거슬러 올라간다. 전근대를 전후해서는 포 대가 설치될 정도로 군사적으로 중요한 지점이었다. ‘韓始城’이라는 지명 자체는 ‘箕子’와 연관되어 명명되었을 가능성이 있다. 한시성은 입지 조건을 고려했을 때 평양성 서쪽에 위치한 적두산성이 가장 부합되는 것으로 판단된다. 평양성을 기준 으로 서쪽에는 보통강을 건너 적두산성이 위치하고, 동쪽에는 합장강을 건너 대성 산성이 위치하여, 고구려의 수도를 방어했던 것이다. 당군의 대동강 남하의 첫 걸 음이 바로 한시성이었다.
