The purpose of this study is to examine how the Korean notating of loan words in English affects the pronunciation of English vowels for more accurate English pronunciation. Therefore, in this study, in order to examine whether people's pronunciation of English vowels is affected by Hangul transcription, in particular, distinction [ou] and [ɔ], and 'a' and 'i', which can often cause confusion within words due to different notations of the same pronunciation. For this purpose, pronunciations were recorded by 50 college students in their 20s who had no experience of staying in the English-speaking countries for a long time. Finally, a questionnaire was conducted on whether the subjects themselves thought they were affected by the Korean transcription. As a result of the experiment, it was found that the Korean transcription of English had a great influence on their English pronunciation, and the specific figures were presented in the conclusion.

본 연구는 보다 정확한 영어 발음을 위해 영어 외래어의 한글 표기가 영어 모음 발음에 얼마나 영향을 미치는지 살펴보는 데 목적을 둔다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 사람들의 영어 모음 발음이 한글 표기에 영향을 받는지 살펴보기 위해 모음 중에서도 특히 [ow]와 [ɔ]를 구분할 수 있는지, 그리고 단어 내에서 자주 혼동을 일으킬 수 있는 ‘a’와 ‘i’처럼 같은 발음의 다른 표기로 인한 발음의 차이를 중심으로 연구하였다. 이를 위해 해외 거주나 유 학 또는 어학연수 등의 장기간 영어권에 머물렀던 경험이 없는 20대 대학생 50명을 대상으로 발음을 녹음하였다. 이 실험을 통해서 많은 한국인들이 표기의 영향을 받는 것으로 드러났다. 마지막으로 설문 대상자들 본인이 외래 어의 한글 표기에 영향을 받는다고 생각하였는지에 대해 설문을 진행하였다. 실험 결과 영어의 한글 표기가 본인 들의 영어 발음에 많은 영향을 주고 있는 것으로 나타났으며 구체적 수치는 결론에 제시하였다.
