Through its reform and opening policies, China has achieved fast economic growth and has become one of the most influential countries in the world. However, the economic development gap among regions become huge problem. As a result, the Chinese government is carrying out large-scale infrastructure investment projects aimed at increasing the growth potential of inland areas and eliminating regional disparity. Accordingly, this study organized panel data for 30 provinces, municipalities and autonomous districts from 2005 to 2016 and examined the relationship between regional transportation infrastructure development and regional economic growth. This study found that transportation infrastructure has a positive effect on the overall economic growth of the region. However, there are differences in the impact of transportation infrastructure on regional economic growth by region. The level of transportation infrastructure in the eastern region has a positive impact on regional economic growth, while the central and western regions have a negative impact. Therefore, in order for the development of transportation infrastructure to have an effective impact on economic growth, the government should implement policies to enhance the region's own growth potential through policies to foster major industries or actively attract foreign investment.

개혁개방 정책을 통해 중국은 빠른 경제 성장을 이루었고 세계에서 가장 영향력 있는 국가 중 하나가 되었다. 그러나 급격한 경제성장 과정에서 지역 간 경제 불균형 발전 문제가 야기되었으며, 이에 중국 정부는 내륙 지역의 성장 잠재력을 높이고 지역 간 격차 해소를 위한 대규모 인프라 투자 프로젝 트를 진행하고 있다. 이에 따라 본 연구는 2005년부터 2016년까지 30개 성, 시, 자치구를 대상으로 패널 자료를 구성하여 지역 교통인프라 발전과 지역경제 성장과의 관계를 연구하였다. 연구결과 교통 인프라가 지역의 전반적인 경제 성장에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다. 그러나 교통인프라가 지역경제 성장에 미치는 영향은 지역별로 차이를 보였다. 동부권의 교통 인프라 수준은 지역 경제 성장에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 반면 중서부 지역은 부정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구결과는 교통인프라 개발이 경제성장에 효과 적인 영향을 미치기 위해서는 주력산업 육성정책이나 적극적인 외국인투자 유치정책을 통해 지역 자체적 성장잠재력을 높이고 주변 지역과 성장 연계 정책을 추진해야 함을 시사한다.
