The purpose of this paper is to analyze the narrative strategies of fairy tales that embody visual impairment, focusing on Ko Jungwook’s Guide Dog Tansil and Shin Kyeongho’s The River, to reveal the narrative homologous structure of disabled children’s stories and to examine the writers’ perception of disabled people. To this end, the narrative theory of Mykebal was referred, and the research results are as follows. Since the important actors are guide dogs and blind people, the narratives of the two works were being built in two branches: the growth of guide dogs and the growth of the blind. At this time, growth can be interpreted in two layers. First, it is a process of recovering the loss of physical and mental abilities damaged by visual impairment for the disabled subject. Second, it is an act of giving guide dogs their own justification and responsibility to their duties and a process of completing personal autonomy. Another thing in common is that both works use marathons in the process of restoring autonomy for the blind. At this time, the marathon, which symbolizes the possibility of overcoming disability, can be interpreted as a strategic arrangement selected to complete a moving plot and a passage system in which the other subject of the disabled recovers autonomy. As a result, the blind protagonist overcomes the ordeal that even non-disabled people cannot do and completes the heroic narrative. However, the method of focusing was different. In Guide Dog Tansil, which selected omniscient perspective, the writer’s awareness of the disabled was directly presented in combination with the theme, and in The River, which selected the first-person main character’s perspective, visual impairment was reinterpreted from the point of view of guide dogs and increased immersion in guide dogs.

이 논문은 고정욱의 『안내견 탄실이』와 신경호의 『리버』를 중심으로 시각장애를 형상화한 동화의 서사 전략을 분석하여 장애인동화에 나타난 서사적 상동 구조를 밝히고 작가들의 장애인식을 고찰하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 미케 발의 서사 이론을 참고했으며, 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 중요 행위자가 안내견과 시각장애인이기에 두 작품의 서사는 공통적으로 안내견의 성장과 시각장애인의 성장 두 갈래로 구축되고 있었다. 이때 성장은 두 가지 층위로 해석할 수 있다. 첫째, 장애인 주체에게는 시각장애로 인해 손상되었던 신체적·정신적 능력의 상실을 회복하는 과정이다. 둘째, 안내견에게는 자신이 수행할 임무에 당위성과 책임감을 스스로 부여하는 행위이자 인격적 자율성을 완성하는 과정이다. 또 다른 공통점은 두 작품 모두 시각장애인이 자율성을 회복하는 과정에서 마라톤을 활용한다는 점이다. 이때 ‘장애 극복’의 가능성을 상징하는 마라톤은 감동적인 플롯을 완성하기 위해 선택된 전략적 배치이자 장애인이라는 타자적 주체가 자율성을 회복하는 통과제의로 해석할 수 있다. 이로써 앞을 볼 수 없는 주인공은 비장애인도 하기 힘든 시련을 이겨내고 영웅적 서사를 완성한다. 그렇지만 초점화 방식은 달랐다. 전지적 시점을 선택한 『안내견 탄실이』에서는 작가의 장애인식이 주제와 결합되어 직접 제시되었으며, 1인칭 주인공 시점을 선택한 『리버』에서는 안내견의 시점에서 시각장애를 재해석하며 안내견의 성장 서사에 대한 몰입도를 높인 것이 특징이다.
