This paper is a study that seeks a new direction of translation that will appear later by comparing and reviewing four types of “The Tale of Genji” that have been translated into Korean since 2010. Starting in 1973, 11 translators translated “The Tale of Genji” in Korea. First of all, paying attention to these translators, it was confirmed that the meaning of the current translation of “The Tale of Genji” in Korean society is different from that of the beginning, and the bibliography and characteristics of “The Tale of Genji”, which has been translated into Korean since 2010. Secondly, the titles of “The Tale of Genji” translated into Korean were organized by pattern and two titles were proposed. The title is set as “Genji Monogatari” if the academic purpose is strong, and “Genji Story” if it is intended for general readers. In addition, in the case of each title of chapter, it seems that the image of the title translated into Korean is difficult to be transmitted, so for example, a method of coined words or paintings was proposed. Finally, the problem of Waka translation and the problem of not translating the katari-te in the original were mentioned by dealing with the actual translated Korean sentences. In the future, I do not hope that “The Tale of Genji” will be translated into Korean in various sentences, but in its translation, the translator’s high understanding of the times and languages that were the background of “The Tale of Genji” should be premised.

本稿は2010年以降における『源氏物語』の韓国語訳を比較検討し、今後の方向性を考 察した研究である。 1973年以来、韓国では11人の翻訳者による『源氏物語』の韓国語訳が出版されてい る。まずは、それらの翻訳者に注目して現今の『源氏物語』の韓国語訳が柳呈による初 期の韓国語訳と社会的な効用を異にすることを確認し、2010年以降の韓国語訳の書誌 を掲げた。 そして現在に至るまで韓国語訳における『源氏物語』のタイトルからそのパターンを 分析して、学術的な目的の場合は｢겐지모노가타리(ゲンジモノガタリ)｣にし、一般読 者相手には｢겐지 이야기(ゲンジ イヤギ)｣にする方法を提案した。続いては韓国語に訳 された巻名の場合はそのイメージが伝わり難いように思われ、いくつかの実例をあげて造語や絵などを用いる方法を提案した。最後に実際に翻訳された韓国語の文章にあたって和歌の翻訳における問題点と源典 にあった語り手の喪失される問題などを取り上げた。今後の『源氏物語』の韓国語訳においてはその背景となった時代の文化や言語に関する理解を持つ翻訳者の手によってさらに多様な試みが現れることを祈る。

본고는 2010년 이후에 한국어로 번역된 4종류의 『源氏物語』를 중심으로 비교검토하여 이후에 나타날 새로운 번역의 방향을 모색한 연구이다. 1973년부터 시작하여 한국에서는 11명의 번역자가 『源氏物語』를 번역하였다. 우선, 이들 번역자에 주목하여 현재 한국사회의 『源氏物語』 번역이 갖는 의미가 초기와 다르다는 사실을 확인하고, 2010년 이후 한국어로 번역된 『源氏物語』의 서지사항과 특징을정리하였다. 그리고 한국어로 번역된 『源氏物語』의 제목을 패턴별로 정리하고 두 가지 제목을제안하였다. 학술적 목적이 강한 경우는 ｢겐지모노가타리｣, 일반독자를 대상으로 하는경우는 ｢겐지 이야기｣로 제목을 정하는 것이다. 그리고 각 권명의 경우는 그 한국어로번역된 권명의 이미지가 전달되기 어려운 측면이 있는 듯 여겨지기에 실례를 들어서조어나 그림 등을 채용하는 방법을 제안하였다. 마지막으로는 실제로 번역된 한국어 문장을 다뤄서 와카 번역의 문제점과 원전에있는 가타리테가 번역되지 않는 문제 등을 언급하였다. 앞으로 『源氏物語』가 다양한 문장의 한국어로 번역되기를 바라마지 않지만, 그 번역에 있어서는 『源氏物語』의 배경이 된 시대와 언어에 대한 번역자의 높은 이해가 전제가되어야 할 것이다.
