This study aimed to analyze elementary pre-service teachers’ ‘perceptions of Korean music’, ‘experiences and perceptions of Korean music classes in elementary and middle schools’, and ‘experiences and perceptions of Korean music education in teacher training institutions’ and to present implications for improving pre-service teachers’ Korean music teaching competency. To this end, a survey was conducted targeting 160 pre-service teachers, in order to analyze their experiences and perceptions from various angles, including frequency analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, word frequency analysis and word cloud creation through text mining, and data citation and interpretation. Based on the findings of the study, the following are suggestions for improving the Korean music teaching competency of pre-service teachers. First, in terms of providing the basic knowledge necessary to implement Korean music classes, a plan to increase pre-service teachers’ perceptions of Korean music should be sought. Second, Korean music classes in elementary and secondary education correspond to a preliminary stage for pre-service teachers’ educational growth, and the way pre-service teachers have learned and experienced Korean music in elementary and middle school Korean music classes affects the pattern of teaching Korean music. In this regard, it is necessary to broaden the perspective on the quality improvement of Korean music classes in elementary and middle schools. Third, it is necessary to systematically organize and provide experiences related to Korean music education in teacher training institutions that affect pre-service teachers’ Korean music teaching competency. This study is significant in that it presents implications for improving pre-service teachers’ Korean music teaching competency based on their experiences and perceptions related to Korean music education. In addition to overhauling Korean music education at the Teachers’ Training College, it is expected that teachers will be able to strengthen their ability to teach Korean music when the quality of elementary and secondary Korean music classes experienced by pre-service teachers is improved and the foundation for Korean music education is established in society as a whole.

본 연구는 초등 예비교사의 ‘국악에 대한 인식’, ‘초ㆍ중등 국악 수업에 대한 경험과 인식’, ‘교원양성기관에서의 국악교육에 대한 경험과 인식’을 분석하고, 예비교사들의 국악 수업 역 량을 높이기 위한 시사점을 제시하는 데 목적을 두었다. 이를 위해 예비교사 160명을 대상으 로 조사연구를 실행하였으며, 예비교사들의 경험과 인식을 다각적으로 분석하기 위해 빈도분 석과 기술통계분석, 텍스트마이닝을 통한 단어 빈도분석 및 워드클라우드 제시, 자료 인용 및 해석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과에 근거하여 예비교사들의 국악 수업 역량을 높이기 위한 시사점을 제시하면 다 음과 같다. 첫째, 예비교사들의 국악에 대한 인식을 제고할 수 있도록 국악 수업에 필요한 기본 소양 교육을 강화해야 한다. 둘째, 초ㆍ중등교육에서의 국악 수업은 예비교사의 교육적 성장을 위한 예비적 단계에 해당되므로, 수준 높은 교사 양성을 위해 초ㆍ중등 국악 수업의 질적 제고가 선행되어야 한다는 점을 강조할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 예비교사들의 국악 수업 역 량에 직접적으로 영향을 미치는 교원양성기관에서의 국악교육 관련 경험을 체계적으로 조직, 제공하는 노력이 요청된다. 본 연구는 예비교사들의 국악교육과 관련된 경험과 인식에 기초하여 예비교사들의 국악 수업 역량을 제고할 수 있는 시사점을 제시한 의의를 갖는다. 앞으로 교사의 국악 수업 역량 을 함양시키기 위해서는 교원양성대학에서의 국악교육을 정비해 나가는 것뿐만 아니라 초ㆍ 중등 국악 수업의 질적 제고, 그리고 사회 전반의 국악교육을 위한 기반 조성이 함께 이루어 져야 할 것이다.
