The cities after the ‘port – opening period’ have great features of Christianity. Thus, the cultural influence of Christianity has it’s meaning on the study of history of the city. The missionary towns in this study are Jeonju, Gunsan, Mokpo, Gwangju and Suncheon. Among them, Jeonju represents the first Missionary town as well as the symbol of traditional city from Chosun-dynasty. This study focuses on the land that the American Southern Presbyterian owned. The existing study had limit when it comes to understanding space as it focuses on the ruins and certain facilities of the Mission town. Therefore, we analyzed physical territory and land possession of each Mission town and we could understand the characteristics of each Mission town. Especially Gwangju was revealed as the center among the other Mission town branches, as the document was founded in Gwangju which authorize the foundation of American Southern Presbyterian Mission, as well having the largest land and the most various category of land. 기독교 문화는 개항기 이후에 당시 도시들의 특성으로 대변되고 있어서 도시사 연구 에 의미가 있다. 연구 대상인 미국 남장로회의 선교 거점 도시는 전주, 군산, 목포, 광주, 순천이다. 이 가운데 전주는 호남 선교의 첫 거점 도시라는 것과 조선시대 전통 도시의 상징성 등으로 대표되기도 하였다. 이번 연구는 미국 남장로회 선교기지가 소유한 토지를 중심으로 살펴보았다. 기존 연구가 선교기지의 유적이나 특정 시설만으로 한정되어 공간을 이해하는데 한계가 있었 다. 각 선교기지의 물리적 영역과 토지 이용을 분석한 결과 각 선교기지의 특징을 확인할 수 있었다. 특히 광주는 남장로회 재단법인 인가 서류의 출원지였고, 가장 다양한 지목과 넓은 토지를 소유하는 등 선교 행정의 중심 도시로 나타났다.
