In this study, the effect of religious factors on the ideological orientation of Representatives was exploratory. The religious factor variables were set as the religious affiliation of Representatives and the religious distribution of districts. In this study, the effect of Representatives’s religious tendencies on voting behavior is usually analyzed using linear regression using the Original Least Square Estimation Method. First, in the analysis of all representative members, it was confirmed that Protestant and Catholic representative tend to vote more progressively and Buddhist representative more conservatively when compared to atheistic representatives. An analysis of local representative only, it was confirmed that compared to atheistic representative, Catholic representative tend to vote more progressively. Second, in the analysis according to political party affiliation, it was confirmed that in the case of the Democratic Party, Protestant and Catholic members have a strong conservative tendency. On the other hand, in the case of the Sanuri Party, it was confirmed that the voting tendency of Buddhist and Protestant members tended to be more progressive than that of atheistic members. Third, it was confirmed that the influence of the religious characteristics of representative on ideological orientation differs by period, and the religious distribution of districts significantly and steadily affects the voting behavior of representative.

한국에서 종교라는 변수는 정치과정에 매우 중요한 영향력을 행사하고 있음에도 불구하 고 국회 입법과정에서 종교가 미치는 영향에 대한 질적·양적 연구는 거의 이루어지지 않고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 종교적인 요인이 한국 국회의원들의 투표행태에 미치는 영향을 탐색 적으로 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 이를 위해 본회의 표결기록을 통해 측정된 W-NOMINATE 추정치를 종속변수로 설정하고, 주요 독립변수로 의원들의 종교 소속과 지 역구의 종교 분포를 설정하여 통계분석을 진행하였다. 연구의 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 전체 의원을 대상으로 한 분석에서 무교인 의원들과 비교할 때, 개신교, 천주교인 의 원들의 경우에는 더 진보적으로, 불교인 의원들의 경우에는 더 보수적으로 투표하는 경향 을 확인하였다. 지역구 의원만을 대상으로 한 분석에서는 무교인 의원들과 비교할 때, 천 주교인 의원인 경우 보다 진보적으로 투표하는 경향이 있음을 확인하였다. 하지만 이러한 효과는 정당 변수가 모형에 통제되는 경우 사라지는 것으로 확인되었다. 둘째, 정당의 효과를 제거한 정당 내 분석에서 민주당의 경우, 개신교 의원들과 천주교 의원들이 보수적인 성향이 강해지는 것을 확인하였다. 한편, 새누리당의 경우, 불교와 개신교 의원들의 투표성 향이 무교 의원들보다 점차 진보적인 경향을 보이는 것을 확인하였다. 셋째, 의원의 종교 적 특성이 이념성향에 미치는 영향은 시기별로 다르고, 지역구의 종교 분포는 의원들의 투 표행태에 유의미하고 꾸준하게 영향을 미치는 것을 확인하였다.
