Research on violence that has occurred in various parts of the world since modern times is needed to create a peaceful future. How we deal with the violence of an era also tells us about the character of that era. The quest for peace begins with the question of what are the causes and backgrounds of violence, and what are the consequences of violence. The discussion of violence in modern society requires an exploration of the essence, characteristics, and tendencies of civilization, and ultimately a philosophical reflection on the nature and fundamental types of violence itself. In order to intensively consider peace and seek alternatives, what is violence must be preceded. Therefore, the study of peace is the study of the interrelationship between peace and violence, and it is a practical study that contributes to the construction of a realistic and peaceful world. Based on the history of research regarding violence, this study examines the types of violence research, and as an alternative search for the process of reducing violence, the perception of peace through beyond otherness, moving beyond the human-centered ‘human’ rights to ‘green’ peace, It is presented as a peace community shared by the public.

근대 이후에 세계 각지에서 일어난 폭력에 대한 연구는 평화로운 미래를 만들어가기 위해 필요하다. 한 시대의 폭력을 어떻게 다루는가는 그 시대의 성격을 말해준다. 평화에 대한 탐구 는 폭력의 원인과 배경은 무엇이며, 폭력의 결과는 어떠한지에 대한 질문으로 시작한다. 현대 사회에서 폭력의 논의는 문명의 본질, 특징, 경향성들에 대한 고찰과 궁극적으로 폭력 자체의 본질, 근본적 유형들에 대한 성찰이 요구된다. 평화에 대해 밀도 있는 고찰과 대안적 모색을 위 해서는 폭력이란 무엇인가가 선행되어야 한다. 따라서 평화연구는 평화와 폭력의 상호관계에 대한 학문이며, 현실의 평화로운 세계에 기여하는 실천적인 학문이다. 본 연구는 폭력연구사 를 기반으로 폭력연구의 유형을 살펴보고, 폭력을 줄여나가는 과정의 대안적 모색으로 타자화 너머의 평화인식, 인간중심 ‘인(人)’권을 넘어 ‘녹색’평화로, 공(公)이 공(共)하는 평화공동체 등으로 제시한다.
