The purpose of the study is to examine the perspectives and characteristics of superstition in North Korean society. Therefore, the study focused on three concepts: the imaginary, the symbolic and the real as an analysis frame to identify superstitions in North Korean society. This study analyzed official discourse related to superstition using official literature such as newspapers and magazines in North Korea. In addition, a cross-analysis of North Korean social superstitions was conducted based on interviews with North Korean defectors who actually experienced superstition-related activities in North Korea. As a result of this study, the materialistic desire and anxiety about the future of individuals seeking success in a market-oriented survival environment led to the spread act of superstitious. Accordingly, even if the state resolves economic complaints, individual imaginative fantasies will continue. This is because act of superstitious has the function of plunging into the imaginary illusion of “predictable the future.”

이 연구의 목적은 북한 사회 미신행위에 대한 관점과 특징을 살펴보는 데 있다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 북한 사회 미신행위 파악을 위한 분석틀로 라캉의 세 개념인 상상계, 상징계, 실재계를 주목하였다. 이 연구는 북한의 신문과 잡지 등 공식 문헌을 활용하여 미신에 대한 지배적 담론 을 분석하였다. 여기에 실제로 북한에서 미신 관련 행위를 경험한 북한이탈주민과의 면담을 토 대로 북한 사회 미신행위에 대한 분석을 진행하였다. 본 연구의 결과 시장 위주의 생존 환경에 서 성공을 꾀하는 개인들의 물질주의적 욕망과 미래에 대한 불안이 미신행위의 확산을 가져왔 다. 이에 국가가 경제적 불만을 해소해 줄지라도 궁극적으로 충족되지 않은 욕망이 또 다른 욕 망을 좇아가게 될 것이다. 그것은 미신행위에 “미래를 예측할 수 있다”는 상상계적 환상으로 빠 져들게 하는 기능이 있기 때문이다.
