Religion should advocate the universal values of mankind and restore publicity. Religion should also play a public role in presenting the right direction to politics. This study examined the political roles and actions that FFWPU has performed by advocating the universal values of world peace and peace on the Korean Peninsula beyond the growth and development centrism of its religion. FFWPU believes the religious ideal of “One Family under Heavenly Parent, God” as a political theology, and based on this, it has continued to make efforts to establish the world peace and peace on the Korean Peninsula. FFWPU presents an example of religious political participation. FFWPU held the Summit 2022 for peace on the Korean Peninsula. In recent years under the leadership of FFWPU, world leaders of politics, economy, society, academia, and the media, discussed solutions to global issues such as the peace on the Korean Peninsula, world peace, overcoming the climate crisis, solving environmental pollution problems and responding to the food crisis. FFWPU has played a role in continuing dialogue with global leaders for the sake of peace on the Korean Peninsula and the world, pursuing the ideal of “one family under Heavenly Parent, God.” Religion can restore trust of the public people when various religions continue to carry out global public interest activities like FFWPU. Religion should communicate and cooperate with each other beyond gains and losses. Religion must uphold universal values. On international issues that politicians cannot properly solve, they should urge corrective actions. In addition, religion should repent for its division and confrontation with each other through COVID-19, and show the right role of religion in our society.

코로나19 방역 위기 상황에서 한국의 종교는 위기를 경험하고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 종 교는 인류의 보편적 가치를 주창하며 정치의 올바른 방향성을 제시하는 공적 역할을 더욱 정진 하며 수행해야 할 필요성이 있다. 본 연구는 하늘부모님성회 세계평화통일가정연합이 자종교의 성장과 발전 중심주의를 넘 어서 세계평화와 한반도평화라는 보편적 가치를 주창하며 수행해온 정치적 역할과 행동을 고 찰하였다. 세계평화통일가정연합은 ‘하늘부모님 아래 인류한가족’의 종교적 이상을 정치신학 의 기조로 삼아 실효성 있는 세계평화와 한반도평화 정착을 위해 지속적으로 노력해 왔다. 특히 다년간 평화서밋을 주최해 왔으며, 2022년에는 2022 한반도 평화서밋을 개최하면서 한반도 평화와 세계평화, 기후위기 극복, 환경오염 문제 해결, 식량 위기 대응 등 인류가 직면한 과제들을 정치, 경제, 사회, 학술, 언론 등의 각계 지도자들이 합심하여 해결방안을 모색하는 공론의 장을 마련했다. 종교의 정치적 참여의 올바른 한 사례라고 할 수 있겠다. 종교는 이해득실을 넘어 서로 소통하면서 협력하고 보편적인 가치를 수호해 나가야 한다. 정치권이 제대로 해결하지 못하는 국제적 이슈에 대해 바른 목소리를 내며 올바른 행동을 촉구 해야 한다. 또한 코로나19를 겪으며 종교가 서로 분열하고 대립해온 것을 참회하고 합심하여 우리 사회에 종교의 바른 역할을 보여주어야 한다. 여러 종교들이 세계평화통일가정연합과 함께 글로벌한 공익적 활동을 지속적으로 펼칠 때 종교는 신뢰를 회복할 수 있을 것이다.
