This study focuses on the view of state and reunification of Dr. Lee Sang-geun, a representative pastor and theologian in Daegu, Gyeongsangbuk-do. It explores his proposal to the Korean church to prepare for national reconciliation and reunification. Jung-Ryu, who lived in an era of patriotism and anti-communism, was also an anti-communist and conservative. Therefore, this study first traces where his anti-communism originated. For this purpose, we examine the experiences of communism that Jung-Ryu had directly experienced in North Korea after liberation. Considering the political environment when Jung-Ryu led the Korean church, we explore what Jung- Ryu thought of the harmonious relationship between the church and the state. This harmony refers to the faithful fulfillment of their mission through cooperation rather than a side deal between the two great powers. At times, Jung-Ryu raised sharp criticisms against the tyranny of the state that oppresses human rights and the church, and, at times, he directly appealed to the American church to guarantee Korea's security to prevent a national security crisis. Finally, this study reconstructs Jung-Ryu's suggestions on Korean churches and Christians' preparations for national harmony and unification.

본 연구는 대구·경북 지방의 대표적인 목회자이자, 신학자였던 정류 이상근 박사의 국가관과 통일관에 초점을 맞추어 민족 화해와 통일을 준비 하는 교회를 향한 그의 제언(提言)을 탐구한다. 정류는 애국과 반공의 시대 를 살았고, 그 역시 반공주의자이자 보수주의자였다. 이에 본 연구는 먼저 그의 반공주의가 어디서 유래했는지를 추적한다. 이를 위해 해방 후 정류 가 겪었던 공산주의 경험을 살펴본다. 이와 함께 정류가 한국교회를 이끌 었을 때의 정치적 환경을 살펴봄으로 정류가 생각하는 교회와 국가의 조화 로운 관계를 탐구한다. 정류가 생각한 교회와 국가 간의 조화란 거대 권력 의 야합이 아닌 상호 협력을 통해 자신들이 맡은 사명을 충실히 수행하는 것을 말한다. 정류는 때론 인권과 교회를 탄압하는 국가의 횡포에 맞서 날 카로운 비판을 제기했고, 때론 국가의 안보 위기를 막기 위해 직접 미국교 회에 한국의 안보에 대한 보장을 호소했다. 끝으로 이 연구는 민족의 화합 과 통일을 위해 한국교회와 기독교인들이 어떤 준비를 해야 하는지에 대한 정류의 제언을 재구성한다.
