This study aims to describe the historical knowledge required for archival institutions to acquire and organize archival records in the process of constructing an East Asian Christian archive system. The method of reconstructing the historical context in which the archival records were created, a method of acquiring the archives, and the different types of records. However, to answer this, the study outlines the concept of a modern archive system and the history of the East Asian archival institutions. Furthermore, it will analyze three cases that represent institutions that preserve the East Asian Christian archival records. The result of this study follows the historical context in which the archival records were created. The study shows the mission activities of missionary societies or denominations and the activities of local churches(in the field) are reconstructed in accordance with the basic order(of organization and function related to the missionary works). In addition, it demonstrates the acquisition of archives. Also, the sources can be extended to some members (individuals) of organizations (alumni, faculty members), the missionary organizations, denominations, and even international organizations (the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace). Furthermore, the archival records held by missionary societies or denominations are combined by a coalition between the missionary societies or denominations. The method of acquiring the records is not only possible through donations of books, donations of book funds, donations after purchasing books, as well as donations of books donated by acquaintances, and donations of books owned by church missionaries. The types of archives are, first, the minutes, letters, and reports produced by the board of foreign missions. Second is the minutes, correspondence, reports, bulletins, periodicals, journals, pamphlets, missionary documents, and missionary journals created by the mission/station/missionary in the field. Third is the minutes, correspondence, reports, bulletin, diaries, constitution, and regulations by native denomination leader’s personal documents. Finally, to these types are added the photos, pictures, maps, etc. as non-document archives. In order to increase access to archives, it is necessary to computerize the archival records and indexes.

본 연구는 동아시아 기독교 관련 기록보존체제를 구축하는 과정에서 기록보존기관이 관련 아카이브(영구기록)를 취득하고 정리(특 히 평가와 분류)하는데 필요한 역사적 지식, 즉 아카이브가 생성된 역사적 맥락을 재구성하는 방식, 아카이브를 취득하는 방식과 아카 이브의 유형을 밝히는 것이다. 이에 대한 답을 얻기 위해 본 연구는 현대 기록보존체제의 개념과 동아시아 기록보존기관의 역사를 개관 하고 동아시아 기독교 기록을 보존하고 있는 대표적 기록보존기관 의 사례를 분석한다. 연구 결과를 정리하면, 아카이브가 생성된 역 사적 맥락으로 선교 관련 조직과 기능의 기본 질서에 따라 선교단 체 혹은 교단의 현지 선교와 교회의 활동을 재구성한다. 아카이브 의 취득 방식으로 출처는 개인, 단체의 일부 구성원(동문, 교직원) 또는 선교단체, 교단, 나아가 국제단체(카네기국제평화기금)로 까지 확대될 수 있다. 또 선교단체 혹은 교단이 소장한 기록은 선교단체 간 혹은 교단 간 연합으로 합쳐진다. 아카이브의 취득 방식은 장서 의 기증뿐 아니라 도서기금의 기부, 도서 구입 후 기증, 지인으로부 터 기부 받은 도서의 기증, 교단 선교회가 소장한 도서의 기증을 통 해서도 가능하다. 아카이브의 유형은 첫째 선교본부의 회의록, 서 신, 보고서이다. 둘째 현지 선교부/선교지부/선교사의 회의록, 서 신, 보고서, 회보, 간행물, 일지, 팜플렛(소책자), 전도문서와 선교 사 개인 문서, 선교사 일지이고, 마지막으로 현지 교회의 회의록, 서신, 보고서, 회보, 일지, 교단별 헌법 및 규정, 본토인 지도자 개 인 문서 등이다. 여기에 문서 외 아카이브로 사진, 그림, 지도 등이 추가되어야 한다. 아카이브에 대한 접근성을 높이기 위해 아카이브 와 색인의 전산화가 필요하다.
