Korea has participated in PKO for 30 years and sent its troops as individuals and members of units to 21 mission areas in 17 countries and the number of troops is 19,354. Republic of Korea has actively contributed to UN as it is ranked 36th out of 122 countries in its troop contributions and 9th out of UN member states in financial contributions for peace in the world. However, the concept of UN PKO has continuously changed and the role of UN has expanded during the period. Despite the ongoing security threat in Korean Peninsula, we can`t avoid reduction of military force. In this situation, we need to consider outcomes and limitations of PKO to preserve peace around the world as it was stated in constitutions and we need to strengthen our roles to take a lead on international stage through the balance of justification and benefits This study suggests ways to take a leading role in PKO centering on mission areas, construct DOTPLMF system for revolution in military affairs, and create big data in military which is the driving force for change and future-oriented innovation through the analysis of correlation between PKO and promotion of national interests.

한국의 유엔 평화유지활동은 30년 가까운 발자취 속에서 개인 및 부대 단위로 17개국 21개 임무단에서 19,354명이 참여하였다. 현재 한국의 평화유지활동에 대한 병력 공여는 세계 122개 병력 공여국 중에서 36위를 나타내고, 재정 기여는 유엔 193개 회원국 중에서 9위를 나타내고 있는 등 세계 평화유지를 위해 적극 참여해 왔다. 하지만 그사이에 유엔의 평화유지활동 개념은 변화되어 역할과 범위도 확대되었으나, 한국의 안보 위협은 점증하는 가운데 병력감축은 불가피한 상황에서 병력 공여는 한계점을 나타내고 있다. 이러한 변화 속에서 지금까지 한국이 참여한 유엔 평화유지활동 성과와 한계를 기초로 헌법에 명시된 지 속적인 세계평화에 기여하면서도 국격에 부합된 주도권을 갖는 대의명분과 실익의 조화를 통한 핵심 역할을 강화할 필요가 있다. 이에 본 연구에서는 대내·외적 목적에 부합된 미래지향적 혁신과 변화의 원동력이 될 수 있는 군사적 측면의 빅데이터체계와 군사혁신을 위한 DOTPLMF1) 견인체계 구축, 국가 전략적 측면의 파병국 중심의 전략적 거점화 선도역할 수행방안을 제시하였다.
