The purposes of this study are to provide an in-depth exploration art therapists' experiences while using media in a hospice and palliative care setting and to understand the meaning and essence of their experiences. To achieve these goals, a study applied the qualitative research methodology, from March to May 2021, focus group and individual in-depth interviews were conducted face-to-face and non-face-to-face in accordance with the social distancing guidelines and participant autonomy. As a result of analyzing the collected data, the results were as follows. First, although it is difficult to select and use the medium in the clinical setting, art therapists constantly think about it and try to actively use the medium. Second, realized that the media allows patients and families to feel physically, psychologically, socially, and spiritually well-being, and that they also come into contact with one's inner self and influence media selection. Third, medium is treated meaningfully as a medium that facilitates the interaction of relationships and helps the connection between objects. Fourth, confirming that the therapist itself is a medium, expand the meaning of the medium. This study presents basic data on media by providing practical information to art therapists and related major students and provides an in-depth understanding of hospice and palliative care art therapy.

본 연구의 목적은 호스피스·완화의료 환경에서 미술치료사가 매체를 활용하면서 어떠한 경 험을 하는지 탐구하고, 그 의미와 본질을 밝혀 그들의 체험을 심층적으로 이해함으로써 매체의 중요성과 다양성을 밝혀내는 데 있다. 상호작용을 통한 이해의 방법과 경험의 의미를 이해하고 탐색하기 위하여 질적 연구의 절차를 따랐고, 2021년 3월부터 5월까지 정부의 사회적 거리두기 방역지침 및 참여자들의 자율성에 따라 포커스 그룹 면담과 개별 심층 면담이 대면, 비대면 방 식으로 진행되었다. 본 연구를 통해, 호스피스·완화의료 미술치료사들은 ‘임상 현장에서 매체 선정 및 활용에 어려움을 겪지만, 이에 대해 끊임없이 고민하며 매체를 적극적으로 활용하고자 노력함’, ‘매체가 환자와 가족들에게 신체적·심리적·사회적·영적 안녕감을 허락하고 자신의 내 면과도 접촉되어 매체 선정에 영향을 미침을 깨달음’, ‘매체가 관계의 상호작용을 촉진하고 대 상 간의 연결을 돕는 매개로서 매체를 의미 있게 다룸‘, ’치료사 자체가 매체임을 확인하며 매 체의 의미를 확장시켜 나아감‘이 확인되었다. 본 연구는 미술치료사 및 관련 전공 학생들에게 실제적인 정보를 제공함으로써 매체에 관한 기초자료를 제시하고, 호스피스·완화의료 임상미술 치료에 대한 심층적 이해를 제공하고 있다.
