The purpose of this study is to reveal the educational anthropological significance of festivals by understanding the human nature inherent in festivals based on the meaning and types and characteristics of festivals. In order to understand festivals according to the purpose of this study, after examining the definition, origin, function, types and characteristics of festivals, the human nature seen through festivals was considered based on the methodological principles of educational anthropology. Also, based on this, the educational anthropological significance of the festival was presented. Festivals have a religious ritual function to wish for safty and abundance, a play function that serves as the purpose of the festival itself, and a function to break away from daily routines and social norms to break away from daily routines and social norms. In addition, the festival has a social integration function that shares the spiritual value of society and strengthens the bond between members. Through the functions, types, and characteristics of these festivals, it can be seen that humans are religious beings, fun-seeking beings, deviant beings, and relationship-oriented beings. Based on these considerations, the educational anthropological significance of this thesis is presented as follows. It becomes a place for humans to experience freedom and rest away from daily life, confirms the meaning of their one’s existence in common values, sublimates suppressed emotions in a healthy way, and plays a direct educational role in human life as a festival itself. In this respect, it can be said that it is meaningful from an educational anthropological point of view. Therefore, it can be said that the festival is not an act of consumption and useless, but rather an essential phenomenon of life that allows us to discover the meaning of human existence.

이 연구는 축제를 이해하고 축제의 유형과 특징에 근거하여 축제에 내재된 인간 본성을 이해함 으로써 축제의 교육인간학적 의의를 밝히는데 그 목적이 있다. 이러한 연구의 목적에 따라 축제를 이해하기 위해 축제의 정의와 기원과 기능, 그리고 유형과 특징에 대해 살펴본 후, 교육인간학의 방 법적 원리에 의거 축제를 통해 본 인간 본성을 고찰 하였다. 또한 이를 바탕으로 축제의 교육인간 학적 의의를 제시하였다. 축제는 태초를 재현하고 풍요를 기원하는 종교 의례적 기능과 축제 그 자체가 목적이 되는 놀이 기능을 가지며 일상의 반복된 습관과 사회적 규범에서 벗어나 휴식을 취하는 일상생활의 단절기능 을 갖는다. 또한 축제는 사회의 정신적 가치를 공유하고 구성원들 사이의 유대감을 강화하는 사회 통합적 기능을 가진다. 이러한 축제의 기능과 유형 및 특징을 통해 인간은 신앙하는 존재, 재미를 추구하는 존재, 일탈하는 존재, 관계 지향적 존재임을 알 수 있다. 이러한 고찰을 토대로 본 논문의 교육인간학적 의의를 제시하면 다음과 같다. 인간에게 일상을 떠나 자유와 휴식을 경험하게 하는 장이되고, 공동의 가치 속에서 자기 존재의 의미를 확인시키고, 인간의 억눌린 감정을 건강하게 승화시키며, 축제 그 자체로 인간 삶에 직접적인 교육적 역할을 한 다는 점에서 교육인간학적으로 의의가 있다고 할 수 있다. 그러므로 축제는 소비적이고 무익한 행 위가 아니라 오히려 인간 존재의 의미를 발견하게 하는 삶의 필수적인 현상이라고 할 수 있다.
