So far, we have only focused on the concept and research of traditional performance, which indicates that prior research is biased toward theater genres. However, it is imperative that we expand our discussion on acrobatic and stunt events, which have been excluded from the study of traditional performances. Such a literature review would be aimed at examining the historical origins and development patterns of the detailed events of the traditional Korean performance acrobatics and stunts, the lineage and genealogy of the artist, the sequence and lineage patterns, and the structure and principles of the traditional performance. Unfortunately, such research is yet to be carried out. Hence, future research on traditional performance acrobatics should develop the perspectives and content of prior research critically in order to further develop the research on this subject. A comprehensive study of traditional performance acrobatics and stunts will enable the authentic preservation and transfer of traditional performance and provide a driving force to create a new performing culture utilizing faithfully organized traditional performance resources.

이 연구는 그간에 이루어진 전통연희 연구에서 소외되어왔던 곡예와 묘기 종목 에 대한 논의들을 점검해 보고, 이를 통해 새로운 연구의 방향과 방법을 전망해 보 는 것을 목적으로 한다. 지금까지 다소 산발적으로 진행되어왔던 전통연희 곡예와 묘기 종목에 대한 연 구 동향을 종합적으로 검토하는 작업은 다음과 같은 의의를 지니고 있다. 첫째, 전통연희 곡예와 묘기 종목에 대한 선행 연구의 시각과 내용을 비판적으 로 검토하는 것을 계기로, 향후 이 분야에 대한 새로운 문제의식과 방법을 지닌 심 화된 연구가 가능해질 것이다. 둘째, 전통연희 곡예와 묘기 종목에 해당하는 줄타기, 땅재주, 솟대타기, 대접돌 리기, 유술, 장애물통과하기 등의 역사적 기원과 전개, 연희자의 실체, 연행 양상, 연행 구조와 원리 등에 대한 연구를 통해 해당 전통연희 종목의 실제적 보존과 전 승이 가능해질 것이다. 셋째, 연구가 이루어지고 복원된 전통연희 자원을 적극적으로 활용하여, 현재에도 예술적 의미가 있고 흥행에도 성공할 수 있는 새로운 공연문화를 창조할 수 있 도록 원동력을 제공해 줄 수 있을 것이다.
