This article deals with environmental rights of future generations. If a present generation has environmental obligations for the future generations, it has to perform the social action committed to natural processes and the future generations. It means that the environmental rights of the future generations compromise the material needs of the present generation. In this sense, it is very hard to protect the environmental rights of the future generations, especially under the market economy. Individual and collective autonomy under it make a control of human needs and the environmental protection difficult. The difficulty can be, to some degree, overcome by civic participation and state intervention. In sum, the environmental rights of the future generations can be achieved in terms of civic participation and state's management of environmental problems and conflicts

이 논문은 미래 세대의 환경적 권리를 다룬다. 현재 세대가 미래 세대를 위한 환경적 의무를 갖는다면 현재 세대는 자연속성과 과정 그리고 미래 세대의 구속력 속에서 사회적 행위를 수행해야 한다. 미래 세대의 환경적 권리는 현재 세대의 물질적 욕구의 훼손을 의미한다. 이러한 점에서 미래 세대의 환경적 권리의 보장은 난점을 가진다. 하지만 환경보호와 미래 세대의 환경적 권리의 보장은 현재 세대의 의무이다. 이러한 의무는 시장경제 하에서 성취되기 힘들다. 시장은 개인의 자유성과 사회적 자율성을 가능케 한다. 이러한 자율성에 기반한 사회적 행위는 환경보호와 자신의 욕구를 억제하는데 난점을 초래한다. 이러한 난점은 참여와 국가의 개입을 통해 일정 정도 극복될 수 있다. 결국 미래 세대의 환경적 권리는 시민적 참여와 국가의 환경 관리를 통하여 성취될 수 있다는 것이 본 글의 주장이다.
