We are living in a time of unprecedented COVID-19 pandemic. What the preacher needs most in this crisis is a full assurance that “I belong to God,” as the Apostle Paul experienced in the strong storm of Euraquilo. In this regard, this study regarding the homiletical meaning of Martyn Lloyd-Jones’ doctrine of assurance is very timely. Lloyd-Jones argues that such full assurance given to the preacher through the baptism of the Spirit is essential for true preaching. He believes that preacher’s experience of assurance and the power of preaching is closely related. The theological basis of his doctrine of Spirit baptism is the doctrine of assurance of salvation of the seventeenth-century Puritans. However, Lloyd-Jones’ doctrine is distinguished from Puritan’s in that, first, he opens the possibility of the direct work of the Spirit apart from the Word of God, and, second, he directly connects the experience of full assurance with the power of preaching. Lloyd-Jones’ conviction on the necessity for full assurance in true preaching still tells that facing the double crisis of the decline of the church and the pandemic, preachers should be filled with the love and power of God repeatedly through the outpouring of the Spirit to overcome the great challenges before them more than ever.

우리는 역사상 유례가 없는 코로나 팬데믹의 시기를 살아가고 있다. 이러한 위기의 상황 속에서 설교자에게 가장 필요한 것은 바울이 유라 굴로 광풍 속에서 체험한 것처럼“내가 하나님께 속해 있다”라고 하는 온전한 확신이다. 이러한 점에서 마틴 로이드 존스의 온전한 확신에 대한 설교학적 의미의 연구는 매우 시의적절하다. 그는 성령 세례를 통해 설교자에게 주어지는 온전한 확신이야말로 진정한 설교를 위해 반드시 필요하다고 보았다. 그는 설교자의 온전한 확신의 체험과 강력 한 설교의 능력이 매우 밀접하게 연관이 되어 있다고 믿는다. 그의 성 령 세례 교리의 신학적 기반은 17세기 청교도들의 구원의 확신 교리에 있다. 그러나 그의 성령 세례 교리는 말씀을 매개로 하지 않는 성령의 직접적인 역사에 대한 열린 자세와 온전한 확신의 체험과 설교의 능력 을 직접적으로 결부시키고 있다는 점에서 청교도들의 확신 교리와 구 별된다. 로이드 존스의 온전한 확신의 필요에 대한 확신은 오늘날 팬 데믹의 시기를 살아가는 설교자들에게 강력한 풍랑과도 같은 이 위기 의 시기를 거슬러 올라가기 위해 성령의 비상한 부으심을 통해 하나님의 사랑에 대한 온전한 확신 가운데 서서 위로부터 임하는 권위와 능 력, 담대함으로 계속해서 충만해지기를 간구해야 할 필요성이 있음을 역설하고 있다.
