This study discusses the life and anti-Japanese activities of Seok-eum Park No-sul (1851‒1917), an anti-Japanese patriot who was active in the present Gwangsan-gu area of the Gwangju Metropolitan City. He resisted the Japanese Empire in a chaotic era when Joseon was deprived of national sovereignty. As a Confucian scholar, he inherited the ideas of Nosa School, and as a writer he authored several poems and articles. He was an anti-Japanese patriot and a Confucian scholar at the same time. His sense of concern for the country and his anti-Japanese spirit are based on the Confucian view of righteousness. He was a writer of Nosa School who had an influence on Honam, especially in the Jeollanam-do area. He tried to implement his ideas while being faithful to the Confucian view of humanity and moral studies. His actions as a Confucian scholar are demonstrated through his anti-Japanese patriotic nature. During his lifetime, he was involved in two anti-Japanese activities. First, he responded to the creation of a Righteous Army by Songsa Ki Woo-man (1846‒1916), the general of the anti-Japanese Righteous Army, with a manifesto and was an active participant in the Army. Second, although he suffered hardship at the hands of the military police of Bia and Jangseong, where he was imprisoned for refusing to receive a Royal bounty from the Japanese, he did not abandon his belief until the end. These two incidents reveal his awareness of the times and confirm his lifelong anti-Japanese spirit.

이 논문의 목적은 현재의 광주광역시 광산구 지역에서 활동했던 항일애국지사 석음 박노술(石陰 朴魯述, 1851-1917)의 생애와 그의 항일행적을 논하는 것이다. 그는 조선 이 국권을 침탈당하는 혼란한 시대 속에서 일제에 항거했던 인물이다. 석음 박노술은 유학자로서 노사학파의 사상을 계승하였으며, 문인으로서 수 편의 시와 글을 남겼다. 박노술은 항일지사였으면서 동시에 유학자였다. 그의 국가에 대한 우환의식과 항일정신 은 유학자적 의리관에 기초한다. 박노술은 호남, 특히 전남지역에 영향을 끼쳤던 노사학 파의 문인이었다. 박노술은 유학적 인간관과 도덕 탐구에 충실하면서도 자신의 사상을 행동으로써 실천하고자 했던 인물이다. 유학자로서 박노술의 실천은 그의 항일애국지사 의 면모로 드러난다. 박노술의 생애에서 그의 항일행적은 두 차례에 걸쳐 확인할 수 있다. 하나는 항일의병장 송사 기우만(松沙 奇宇萬, 1846-1916)의 창의에 격문으로 응하며 의병에 가담한 것이고 또 하나는 일제의 은사금을 거절하여 비아와 장성의 헌병 대에 압송되어 고초를 겪으면서도 끝까지 자신의 뜻을 굽히지 않은 일이다. 박노술의 의병활동과 일제의 은사금 거절이라는 두 사건은 그의 삶을 관통하는 시대에 대한 인식 과 항일정신을 보여주는 것이다.
