It is revealed that the use of human rights books in guidance on human rights teaching and learning methods and in a number of class cases is useful to evoke sympathy from learners. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the children’s human rights book list and use it as basic data to help human rights education and develop a balanced human rights book list. In 2021, 117 children’s human rights books selected by the National Human Rights Commission of Korea Human Rights Library for elementary school students were analyzed according to the content system of the human rights curriculum after analysis of general book characteristics and theme suggested in the list. As a result, first, most of the books were published within 10 years, and the proportion of new books also reached 10%. Second, human rights books had a higher proportion of domestic books than foreign books, and foreign books were selected from about 20 countries. Third, books under the theme of “The Importance of Relationships” and “The World Living Together” accounted for 40%. Fourth, according to the content system of the human rights curriculum, 40% of the books accounted for “human rights and various values” and “diverse human rights issues in daily life.” More effective human rights education will be possible if the criteria for selecting human rights books that contain the daily lives of students and consider the connection with the human rights curriculum are presented.

인권 교수⋅학습 방법 안내 및 다수의 수업사례에서 인권도서를 활용하는 것은 학습자의 공감을 불러일으키는 데에 유용함을 밝히고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 어린이 인권도서 목록을 분석하여 인권 교육에 도움을 주고 균형 있는 인권도서 목록을 개발하는 데 기초자료로 활용하고자 한다. 2021년 국가인권위원회 인권도서관이 초등학생용으로 선정한 어린이 인권도서 117권을 대상으로 일반적인 도서 특성을 분석한 뒤에 목록에서 제시된 주제별 분석과 더불어 인권 교육과정 내용체계에 따른 내용 적합성 분석을 실시하였다. 연구 결과, 첫째, 10년 이내에 출판된 작품이 대부분으로 신간 비중도 10%에 달했다. 둘째, 초등학생 대상 인권도서는 국내 도서가 국외 도서보다 비중이 높았으며, 국외 도서는 약 20개국에서 출판된 작품을 선정하였다. 셋째, ‘관계의 소중함’과 ‘함께 사는 세상’ 주제의 도서가 40%를 점유했다. 넷째, 인권 교육과정 내용체계를 토대로 12개의 범주로 구분했을 때, ‘인권과 다양한 가치’와 ‘일상생활 속 다양한 인권 문제’를 다루는 도서가 40%를 차지했다. 학생들의 일상생활을 담고 인권 교육과정과의 연계성을 고려하는 인권도서 선정기준을 구체적으로 제시한다면 좀 더 효과적인 인권교육이 가능할 것이다.
