The purpose of this study is to examine the formation of fair public opinion, enlightenment efforts and poetry as a discourse of construction of a new country by looking into the media characteristics and poetic characteristics of the comprehensive magazine Shincheonji during the liberation period. The specific objectives of this study are (i) to raise questions about the existing research trends on Shincheonji through the discussion on literature during the liberation period, (ii) to focus on the personal moves of the managers and editors from the Japanese colonial period to the turning point in 1949, and review this magazine as a neutral magazine, and (iii) to analyze how editors formed intellectual enlightenment and shaped public opinion among people during the liberation period by investigating the narrative discourse of avantgarde poets. The major results are as follows; First, it was found that the publishers of Shincheonji tried to establish a bridgehead for the construction of national culture through their literary practice by discovering new writers. Second, the popularization strategy of Shincheonji was focused on shaping a neutral public opinion through the 'reality perception' and 'people's enlightenment'. In particular, the magazine's 'survey' and 'street information' were shared nationwide to express the people's political will. Lastly, the publishers and editors of Shincheonji enlightened people and promoted anti-foreign nationalism by the works of avantgarde poets who embodied the public discourse in their poetry. Overall, this study demonstrated that Shincheonji is the medium that ultimately led the construction of a democratic state by emphasizing that the people are both political leaders and members of society.

이 글의 목적은 해방기 종합 잡지 『신천지』의 매체 특성과 시 문학의 특징을 살펴봄으로써, 이 잡지에 나타난 공정한 여론 형성과 계몽 노력 그리고 새 나라 건설 담론으로서의 시 쓰기를 살펴보는 것이다. 이를 위해 본 연구는 첫째 해방 기 문학에 대한 논의를 통해 『신천지』에 관한 기존 연구 경향에 관하여 문제를 제기하고, 두 번째로 이 잡지를 발간한 운영 주체들의 일제강점기로부터 1949 년 전향국면까지 개인적인 행보에 주목함으로써 이 잡지가 ‘중간파 잡지’임을 검토하였으며, 그리고 세 번째로 편집자들이 이 잡지를 통해 해방기 조선 인민 들에게 어떤 방식으로 지적 계몽과 민중 여론을 형성했는지를 전위시인들의 서사 담론 분석을 통해 살펴보았다. 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 먼저, 『신천지』 잡지 발행 주체들은 신인 작 가들을 발굴해 많은 지면을 할애함으로 이들의 문학적 실천을 통해 민족문화건 설의 교두보를 마련하고자 했다. 다음으로, 『신천지』가 추구한 대중화 전략의 초점은 인민들의 ‘현실 인식’과 ‘민중계몽’을 통해 올바른 민중 여론을 형성하는 데 있었다. 특히 이 잡지의 ‘설문조사’, ‘거리의 정보’는 인민의 정치적 의사를 표출하고 전국적으로 공유할 수 있게 되었다. 마지막으로, 『신천지』를 발간한 운영 주체와 편집자들은 민중의 거대 담론을 시로 형상화한 전위시인들의 작품 을 게재함으로 민중계몽과 반외세 민족주의 고취에 앞장섰다. 종합적으로, 본 연구는 『신천지』가 인민이 정치적인 주체임과 동시에 인민이 사회 구성 주체임 을 강조함으로써 궁극적으로 민주국가 건설을 주도한 매체임을 밝힐 수 있었다.
