This study aims to analyze the text of Genesis 2:4b-17, which describes the original ecosystem of the created earth, from the perspective of ecological peace that gives equal value and interest to humans and nature. As a result of the analysis, the following conclusions are reached. First, in light of the paronomasia of Adam and Adamah, the text emphasizes that human beings are from the earth. The expression ‘a man to till the ground’ can be interpreted as ‘Adam to serve Adamah’. Second, to emphasize the ideal ecosystem right at the time of completion of creation, the text compares it with the ecosystem after the Fall. Forest, trees, and fruits are the ideal environmental elements for human being in the garden of Eden, and the ‘river’ which wets the earth is the core of its ecosystem. Third, when Yahweh instructed the human being to ‘cultivate and keep’ Eden, He defined his responsibility ‘to be a companion of nature’. It is given not as a punitive discipline but as an innate duty. It is expected that the results of this analysis will be crucial to recognizing that harmonious coexistence with nature is essential for human well-being.

이 연구는 창조된 땅의 원 생태계를 묘사하는 창세기 2장 4b-17절의 본문을 인간과 자연에게 같은 가치와 관심을 부여하는 ‘생태평화의 관점으로’ 분석하였다. 분석 결과 다음의 결과들이 도출되었다. 첫째, 본문은 인간이 땅에서 비롯된 존재임을 아담과 아다마란 동음이의어의 언어유희로 강조한다. ‘땅을 갈 사람’이란 표 현은 ‘아다마를 섬길 아담’으로 정의할 수 있다. 둘째, 본문은 당시의 이상적 생태계를 강조하기 위해 그것을 범죄 이후의 에코시스템과 비교한다. 에덴의 이상적 환경 요소는 숲, 나무, 과일이며, 에덴 에코시스템의 핵 심은 땅을 적시는 ‘강’이다. 셋째, 야훼가 인간에게 에덴을 ‘경작하며 지키게’ 한 것은 인간의 책임을 ‘자연의 동반자 되기’로 정의한 것이다. 그것은 형벌적 징계가 아니라 본래적 본분으로 주어졌다. 이런 분석 결과가 자연과의 조화로운 공존이 인간의 행복에 필수임을 인식하는 데에 기여가 되리라 기대한다.
