The study aims to find out the difficulties that art therapists for children with developmental disabilities experience, and the qualities, difficulties, and limitation that they think of by analyzing their experiences with such children. The participants of this study are those who are master’s degree or higher in art therapy, and 10 of them who have experiences for over 3 years in art therapy for children with developmental disabilities. I collected data from the focus group interviews. In the phase of data analysis, I applied Giorgi’s methods. It resulted in the elements of art therapists’ motivation with 12 meaning units, 4 subcategories, and 2 upper categories, and in the elements of the experience with 43 meaning units, 14 subcategories, and 4 upper categories. The results of qualification and future of art therapists for children with developmental disabilities turned out to be 19 meaning units, 5 subcategories, and 2 upper categories. In overall, 74 meaning units, 23 subcategories and 8 supper categories were resulted. This study with the title of the experience of the art therapists for children with developmental disabilities has the meaning that the art therapy has various positive effect on such children, and the effort for their families, qualifications of the art therapists and the expectation for the future have been addressed in depth and understood. It is expected to give empathetic message to the art therapists, and also indirect influence of the actual experiences.

이 연구에서는 발달장애아동을 대상으로 하는 미술치료사들의 경험을 통해 장애아동 미술치 료사들이 겪는 고충과 그들이 생각하는 자질, 어려움, 한계점 등을 살펴보고자 한다. 이 연구의 참여자는 미술치료 전공 석사 이상이며 3년 이상 발달장애아동 미술치료를 경험한 미술치료사 10명이다. 자료수집은 하나의 주제를 가지고 이야기 할 수 있는 포커스 그룹 인터뷰를 실시하 였고 자료분석은 연구참여자의 경험을 심도 있게 기술하고, 체험에 나타난 본질적인 요소를 도 출하는 Giorgi의 현상학적 연구방법을 적용하였다. 그 결과 발달장애아동 미술치료사들의 동기 에 대한 요인들은 11개 의미단위, 4개의 하위범주, 2개의 상위범주로 나타났으며, 경험에 대한 요인들은 43개의 의미단위, 14개의 하위범주, 이는 다시 4개의 상위범주로 도출되었다. 발달장 애아동 미술치료사의 자질과 미래에 대한 결과는 19개의 의미단위, 5개의 하위범주, 2개의 상 위범주로 나타났다. 전체적으로 73개의 의미단위, 23개의 하위범주, 8개의 상위범주로 도출된 것을 볼 수 있다. 이처럼 이 연구는 발달장애아동 미술치료사의 경험이라는 주제로 발달장애아 동에게 미술치료가 주는 다양한 효과성과 그 가족을 위한 노력, 그리고 미술치료사들의 역량, 미래의 기대와 바람 등을 좀 더 깊이 있게 살펴보고 이해할 수 있었다는데 그 연구의 의의가 있으며 임상현장에서 발달장애아동을 대상으로 하는 미술치료사들에게 공감적 메시지와 함께 확장된 경험을 줄 수 있을 것으로 기대한다.
