This study stemmed from the concern that how to teach dramatic literature with a balance between the literary and theatrical aspects of plays. As one of the measures, the ‘Rehearsal Room Approaches’ built by RSC, which achieved worldwide fame, through years of direct teaching and learning and experience, focused on the aspect of a systematic educational methodology that can provide dramatic literature education with a balance between education and art. Therefore, the study introduced and analyzed that the theoretical rationale for‘Rehearsal Room Pedagogy’ of RSC , the contents and characteristics of ‘Rehearsal Room Approaches’, and its specific activities. Drawing the analysis, the implications of RSC Rehearsal Room Approaches for revitalizing dramatic literature education were considered. It is hoped that this study will contribute to establishment of a variety of dramatic literature education models that can balance the literary and theatricality of plays. In addition, by exploring plays through the Rehearsal Room Approaches, I hope that young people can enjoy dramatic literature through the unique characteristics of plays, enjoying experiences that could not be learned in other literary genres.

본 연구는 희곡의 문학성과 연극성의 균형을 갖춘 희곡교육을 어떻게 가능케 할까? 라는 고민에서 출발 하였다. 그 방안으로써 세계적 명성을 지닌 영국 RSC 극단이 수년간의 실행연구와 모범 사례를 기반으 로 구축한 ‘리허설 룸 접근법’이 예술과 교육의 균형을 이룬 희곡교육의 체계적 교육방법론이라는 측면 에 주목하였다. 이에 RSC ‘리허설 룸 페다고지’의 이론적 배경, 교육방법론인 ‘리허설 룸 접근법’의 특성, 그리고 리허설 룸 접근법의 구체적인 수업 사례를 소개하고 이를 분석하고자 하였다. 이를 통해 희곡교 육 활성화를 위한 RSC 교육방법론의 시사점을 고찰하였다. 본 연구가 희곡이 지닌 문학성과 연극성을 살린 다양한 희곡교육 모델을 구축할 수 있는 근거가 되기를 바란다. 또한 이와 같은 새로운 희곡교육 방법론을 토대로 희곡을 탐구함으로써 아동ㆍ청소년들이 희곡이 가진 고유한 특성을 통해 다른 문학 장 르에서 학습할 수 없었던 새로운 배움과 경험을 누리며 희곡문학을 향유하는 주체가 될 수 있길 기대한다.
