Citizens' cooperation with the police is urgently required to achieve the successful purpose of police activities in a complex and diverse security environment in modern society. Therefore, strategies for ommunities safety are drawing attention through cooperation between citizens and police in police activities. Citizens decide whether to cooperate or not according to the degree to which they trust the police. Police confidence is traditionally explained in terms of the model of instrumental perspective such as the perception of fear of crime, and the expressive perspective that the expression of perception social cohesion, informal social control, and incivility consciousness is reflected in the police confidence. This study explored to find out how the variables of the two models that explain the police confidence have a differential effect on the citizen's will to cooperate with the police by mediating the police confidence. This study attempted to examine the factors influencing citizens' willingness to cooperate with the police by analyzing survey data collected from local residents, including the metropolitan area. As a result of Structural equation modeling analysis, when the coefficients of determination of the two models were compared, relatively higher value of R-Squared was confirmed in the factors of expressive perspective. It can be seen that the expressive model has a greater influence on the willingness to cooperate with the police through the mediation of police confidence. Based on these analysis results, related overseas cases and policy implications were presented to improve citizens' willingness to cooperate with the police.

현대 사회의 복잡다기한 치안환경에서 경찰활동의 성공적인 목적 달성을 위해 시민들의 협력이 절실히 요구됨은 주지의 사실이다. 이에 따라 경찰활동에 있어서 민경 협력치안이 주목받고 있다. 시민들은 경찰을 신뢰하는 정도에 따라 협력여부를 결정한다. 경찰신뢰도는 범죄두려움의 인식과 같은 도구적 시각의 전통적 모형과 사 회적 유대, 비공식적 사회통제, 그리고 지역의 도덕수준 등의 표출이 신뢰도로 반영 된다는 표현적 시각으로 설명된다. 본 연구는 경찰신뢰도를 설명하는 두 모형이 경 찰신뢰도의 매개에 의하여 시민의 경찰에 대한 협력의지에 어떠한 차별적인 영향을 주는지 알아보는 연구이다. 본 연구에서는 서울을 포함한 수도권과 주변 지역의 거주민을 대상으로 수집한 조사 자료를 분석하여 시민의 경찰에 대한 협력의지의 영향요인을 살펴보고자 하였 다. 구조방정식 분석결과, 두 모형의 결정계수를 비교하였을 때 표현적 시각의 요인 에서 상대적으로 더 높은 설명력을 확인할 수 있었다. 이는 표현적 모형이 경찰신뢰 도를 매개하여 경찰에 대한 협력의지에 더 크게 영향을 주고 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 시민의 경찰에 대한 협력의지를 제고 하기위해 해외 사례 및 정책적 제안을 제시하였다.
