With the global diversification, today advance to the convergent society is being done rapidly. Hence, paying attention to modernity of a coat(Po), this study aims to analyze its aesthetic values and establish a methodology for the creative and convergent fashion design, suggesting the fashion design works based on cultural convergence using Po of the Joseon Dynasty period. As for the research methodologies, literature study and visual material analysis were conducted, and as for the cultural convergence intensively discussed in this research, case analysis was done for contemporary art and fashion design. As for the research content, it examined cases of cultural convergence and derived the aesthetic characteristics of Po, planning and suggesting the works based on the above. As for the aesthetic characteristics of Po, beauty of composure, simplicity, flatness, flight and calmness was derived and fashion design works were produced via the original formative methods of cultural convergence based on the convergent ideas as follows. Firstly, intriguing cultural convergence could be achieved by combining three-dimensional structure of western fashion, global culture of modern fashion, with flat structure of traditional Korean fashion. Secondly, aesthetic characteristics of Po could be expressed into the works through a silhouette. form, texture and a color. In addition, aesthetic and functional convergence was accomplished by applying details of Po such as a collar, sleeve, gusset(Mu), string, fold and opening to a coat, one-piece dress and a vest. Thirdly, western sewing techniques as technical factors allowed seamless convergence and as one of material techniques a fold enriched linear and textural expressions of the silhouette. Furthermore, expressions of repeated oblique Ggaeggi lines acted as the aesthetic and technical factors to emphasize modernity of the work. Fourthly, the characteristic design could be expressed and consistent image could be created by crossing the structures, forms, details, material techniques/arrangements of Western fashion and traditional Korean Po. Therefore, it is expected for the study to contribute to suggesting methods to develope differentiated fashion design satisfying the era of the global environment in which cultural convergence having the novel significance is required.

세계가 점점 다원화되면서 현대는 융합 사회로의 진전이 빠르게 진행되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 포가 지닌 모더니티에 착안하여 미적 가치를 분석하고 창의적 융합 패션디자인 방법을 구축하여 이를 토대로 조선시대 포를 활용한 문화융합 기반의 패션디자인 작품을 제안하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 연구의 방법은 문헌 연구 및 시각자료 분석이며 본 연구에서 핵심적으로 논의되는 문화융합의 양상은 현대미술과 패션디 자인 사례분석으로 진행되었다. 연구의 내용은 문화융합의 사례를 살펴보고, 포의 미적 특성을 도출하여 작품 계획 및 결과 제시로 이루어졌다. 포의 미적 특성은 여유의 미, 단순미, 평면성, 비의 미, 담조의 미로 도출되었으며, 융합적 발상 구조에 조형 방법을 적용한 독창적인 문화융합 방법으로 제작한 작품의 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 현대 패션의 글로벌문화로서 서구 패션의 입체적 구조와 로컬문화로서 한국 전 통의 평면적 구조를 결합시킴으로써 흥미로운 문화융합이 이루어질 수 있었다. 둘째, 실루엣과 형태, 재질 감, 색채 등을 통해 포의 미적 특성을 작품에 표현하였고, 포의 디테일로서 깃, 소매, 무, 고름, 주름, 트임 등을 코트와 원피스 드레스, 베스트 등에 활용한 결과 미적이며 기능적인 융합이 이루어졌다. 셋째, 기술적 요인인 서구식 봉제 기법은 융합에 있어서 매끄럽게 결합할 수 있도록 하였고 소재 기법인 주름은 실루엣 내부의 선적 표현과 재질적 표현을 풍부하게 하였으며, 반복된 사선형의 깨끼 바느질 선의 표현은 작품에 모더니티를 강조하는 미적, 기술적 요인이 되었다. 넷째, 서구 패션과 한국 전통 포의 구조, 형태, 디테일, 소재 기법, 소재 배치 등을 자유롭게 교차 사용함으로써 디자인의 개성이 표현되어 일관된 이미지를 창출 할 수 있었다. 이를 통해 본 연구는 새로운 의미의 문화융합이 요구되는 글로벌 환경 시대에 부응하는 차 별화된 패션디자인을 개발하는 방안 제시에 기여할 수 있을 것이다.
