The purpose of this study is to explore the direction of composition of localization textbooks that can implement local specificity and identity. The critical analysis of localization textbooks in Pyeongtaek, where researchers work, was conducted through an analysis framework prepared based on the factors of local identity composition. The results are as follow. First, it contained various natural environments in Pyeongtaek area from the perspective of ‘natural elements’ among local identity composition factors, but it listed general contents in parallel rather than emphasizing the specificity of the region. Second, from the perspective of ‘historical elements’, various historical figures and cultural heritages were presented, but rather than limited to Pyeongtaek area, they contained famous and popular contents focusing on national history. Third, from the perspective of ‘social factors’, similar contents were emphasized to the policy direction being pursued by Pyeongtaek City, but factors that implied Pyeongtaek’s current identity could not be seen. These were problems that occurred when only the data were replaced with local ones while using the national textbook composition system as it was. Based on the results of this analysis, the direction of development of localization textbooks was proposed that could reflect the local identity.

본 연구의 목적은 지역의 특수성과 정체성을 구현할 수 있는 지역화 교과서의 구성 방향을 탐색하는데 있다. 이를 위해 지역정체성 구성 인자를 바탕으로 마련한 분석틀을 통해 연구자가 근무하고 있는 평택 지역 의 지역화 교과서에 대한 비판적 분석을 실시하였다. 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 지역정체성 구성 인자 중 ‘자연적 요소’의 관점에서는 평택지역의 다양한 자연환경을 담고 있었지만, 지역의 특수성을 강조하기보다 일 반적인 내용을 병렬적으로 나열하고 있었다. 둘째, ‘역사적 요소’의 관점에서는 다양한 역사적 인물과 문화유 산을 제시하고 있었지만 평택지역에 국한된 사례라기보다, 국가사에 초점을 맞춘 유명하고 대중적인 내용을 수록하고 있었다. 셋째, ‘사회적 요소’의 관점에서는 평택시에서 추진하고 있는 정책 방향성과 유사한 내용이 강조되고 있었지만, 정작 평택의 현재적 정체성을 내포하는 요소들은 살펴볼 수 없었다. 이는 국정교과서 구 성 체계를 그대로 사용하면서 자료만 지역의 것으로 치환시킬 때 발생되는 문제들이었다. 이러한 분석결과를 바탕으로 지역의 정체성을 반영할 수 있는 지역화 교과서 개발 방향에 대해 제언하였다.
