This article was based on 22 major universities' unification research institutes which were used as an example to analyze the actual conditions of unification education programs. As a result, first, it was consisted of three types of unification education programs at the university : research, lecture, and participatory programs. Second, the orientation of the unification education program was as follows. The basic direction and educational theme trends were found to be peaceful unification, inter-Korean reconciliation and cooperation, fostering unification talent, and understanding of North Korea. The goal trends of unification education were mutual understanding, inter-Korean cooperation, inter-Korean community orientation, and North Korean understanding. The main body of unification education was the central and local governments, as well as unification research institute of university and NGO private organizations. The educational contents of the unification education program were found to be peace-related, nurturing unification talents, citizen participation, and exchange and cooperation. The orientation of the unification education method was conducted in the form of a discussion, participatory, and colloquium, which are constructivist methods. Third, although the temporal characteristics of unification education programs differed by type, most of them consisted of programs requiring continuity and long term, not temporary programs.

22개 대학 통일연구소를 사례로 하여 통일교육 프로그램의 실태를 분석하였다. 그 결과 첫째, 대학 통일 연구소 통일교육 프로그램의 유형은 연구형 프로그램, 강의형 프로그램, 참여형 프로그램 등의 3가지로 나 타났다. 둘째, 대학 통일연구소 통일교육 프로그램의 정향은 다음과 같았다. 기본방향과 교육주제 정향은 평 화통일, 남북화해와 협력, 통일 인재 육성, 북한 이해 등으로 나타났고, 통일교육의 목표 정향은 상호이해, 남북한 협력, 남북 공동체 지향, 북한 이해 등으로 나타났다. 통일교육의 주체 정향은 중앙정부와 지방정부 그리고 대학의 통일연구소와 NGO 민간단체가 거버넌스를 구축하여 진행되었다. 통일교육 프로그램의 내 용 정향은 평화문제, 통일인재육성, 시민참여 그리고 교류협력으로 나타났다. 통일교육방법의 정향은 구성 주의 방식인 토론식, 참여식, 콜로키움식으로 진행되고 있었다. 셋째, 통일교육 프로그램의 시간적 특징은 유형별로 차이는 있었지만 대부분 일시적인 프로그램이 아닌 연속성과 장기간이 필요한 프로그램들로 구성 되어 있었다.
