This study is a narrative inquiry of three participants recovered from drug use and dealing. Researchers analyzed data by a narrative inquiry methods proposed by Clandinin and Connelly(2000). Participants’ escape experience from drug dealing was analyzed with its focus on temporality, place, and social interaction. In particular, internal, external, past, and future orientation was explored during travel in the 3D narrative space. Common features found in participants’ narrative were as follows. Drug was a substitute to get over poverty and come true their frustrated dream and correctional facilities were a good condition to have new market for drug dealers as well as drug users. However, all participants felt the nihility of their existence through the bottom-up experience. The nihility allowed them to show extreme resilience and reset new life direction. It is necessary to find the meaning of life through existential nihilism rather than defeatist nihilism for therapeutic approach for drug dealers and addicts. Based on the findings, researchers discussed and made suggestions for the rehabilitation and social readjustment of drug dealers as well as drug addicts.

본 연구는 마약 사용과 밀매 경험이 있는 회복자 3인을 연구 대상으로 하여 Clandinin과 Connelly(2000)가 제시한 내러티브 탐구 방법으로 시간성, 장소, 사 회적인 상호작용을 중심으로 하여 연구참여자들의 마약 밀매의 탈출 경험을 분 석하였다. 특히 3차원적 내러티브 공간에서 내적 지향, 외적 지향, 과거지향, 미 래지향을 여행하면서 탐구하였다. 연구참여자들의 내러티브에서 공통으로 나타난 것은 다음과 같다. 마약은 가난의 극복과 좌절된 꿈을 이루는 대체물이고 교정시 설은 마약 사용자들은 물론 밀매자들에게도 새로운 시장을 확보할 수 있는 조건 이었다. 하지만 모든 연구참여자는 바닥치기를 경험해 자기 존재의 허무함을 느 꼈다. 이러한 허무함은 극한의 회복탄력성을 발휘하여 새로운 삶의 방향을 재설 정하였다. 마약 밀매자와 중독자들에게 치료적 접근에 있어서는 패배주의적 허무 가 아닌 실존적 허무를 통해서 삶의 의미를 찾는 접근이 필요하다고 할 것이다. 연구자들은 연구 결과에 근거하여 마약중독자는 물론 밀매자들의 재활과 사회 재적응을 위한 논의와 제언을 하였다.
