Despite its short experience, Woosuk University’s department of literary writing which was founded as a four-year department in 2005 has produced talented people who lead various social and cultural fields including literature. In the face of the rapidly changing literary environment in the digital era, this department focuses on the following two directions in literary writing education. First, it is the reinforcement of traditional literary writing education. Unless a utopian world where humans and humans become one arrives, the traditional literature that aims for a human life will not be lost the significance of existence in any era. With the development of artificial intelligence and the advancement of machines, human material life has become abundant. However, mental life is becoming desolate. In order for the current Korean society to move toward a more human society, humanistic imagination and creative spirit based on love and understanding of humans are essential. Literature is the only breakthrough that can realize this. This department operates a curriculum that emphasizes this aspect. This is why it emphasizes critical imagination education which connects individual experiences to the problems of Korean society in novel writing education and further deepens them into global universal emotions. Second, it is storytelling education to actively cope with the changed society. It allows students to have storytelling skills using literary works and local culture. Through this, students themselves can lead various creative fields based on digital media. Through this, it will be possible to strengthen students’ job and start-up capabilities in various fields such as literary culture.

2005년 4년제 학과로 창설된 우석대학교 문예창작학과는 짧은 연륜에도 불구하고 그동안 문예 분야를 비롯해 다양한 사회문화 분야를 선도적으로 이끌어가는 인재를 배출하였다. 본 학과는 디지털 시대 급변하는 문예환경 을 맞이하여, 문예창작 교육에서 다음 두 가지 방향에 주목하고 있다. 첫째, 전통적인 문예창작 교육의 강화이다. 인간다운 삶을 지향하는 전통적인 문 예는 인간과 인간이 하나 되는 유토피아적 세계가 도래하지 않는 한 그 어 떤 시대에도 존재 의의를 상실하지 않을 것이다. 인공지능의 발달과 기계의 첨단화로 인간의 물질적 삶은 풍요롭게 되었으나 정신적 삶은 황폐해지고 있는 현재의 한국사회가 보다 인간다운 사회로 나아가기 위해서는 인간에 대한 사랑과 이해에 기반한 인문학적 상상력과 창조정신을 필요로 하며, 문 예야말로 이를 실현할 수 있는 유일한 돌파구가 아닐 수 없다. 본 학과는 이 러한 측면을 강조하는 교육과정을 운영하고 있는데, 소설창작 교육에서 개 인의 경험을 한국 사회의 문제와 연결하고 나아가 세계적인 보편정서로 심 화하여 소설화하는 비판적 상상력 교육을 강조하는 것도 이 때문이다. 둘째, 변화된 사회에 능동적으로 대처하기 위한 스토리텔링 교육이다. 학생들이 문예작품과 지역문화를 활용한 스토리텔링 역량을 갖출 수 있도록 함으로 써, 디지털 매체 기반 창작 분야를 학생들 스스로 선도적으로 이끌어갈 수 있도록 한다. 이를 통해 문예문화 등 다양한 분야에서의 학생들의 취・창업 역량을 강화할 수 있을 것이다.
