The purpose of this study is to reconstruct the life history of Korean clothing by analyzing the aspects of clothing that appeared in the list of package of Hangeul Letters before and after the 20th century. In Chapter 2, i studied clothes that is mainly found in the list and divided it into clothing-related meterial, clothing, and accessories. Clothing-related material is divided into fabrics, furs, and other meterial. The fabrics, that mainly appearing in the list, were subdivided into silk fabrics, cotton fabrics, and hemp fabrics. Clothing was divided into clothing and accessory clothing, and clothing was subdivided into upper, lower, and outer clothing. Accessory clothing and accessories were just presented. In Chapter 3, i examined the aspect of distribution of clothes by dividing it into the establish pattern of the monetary economy, the operation pattern of the postal system and the parcel system, the vitalization pattern of the clothing market, and the incompleteness pattern of delivery. Around the 20th century, a monetary economy was established, but the pace was slow due to the overlapping political instability, inflation, and Japanese occupation. As a trace of the transition period from the commodity economy to the money economy, it was confirmed that textiles were used as a means of change in place of money. As the settling of the parcel system was delayed compared to the postal system, delivery by person continued for a considerable period of time after the implementation of the postal system. It was analyzed that clichéd expressions such as ‘Only letter(Bin Sal-yee) / Only servant(Bin Ha-in)' occurred in the situation before the postal system and the parcel system were separated. The incompleteness of the delivery was reviewed focusing on the phenomenon of exchanging the cliché expression like 'collect correctly' and the example image(with exact measurements of clothing).

본 연구는 20세기 전후의 한글 편지의 물목(物目)에 나타난 의류의 양상을 분석함으로써 한국 의류 생활사를 실증적으로 재구하는 데 목적이 있다. 2장에서는 물목에 주로 나오는 의류를 대상으로 하여 의료류와 의복류 및 장신구류로 나누어 살폈다. 의료류는 직물류, 모피류, 기타 의료로 나뉘는데, 본고에서는 물목에 주로 나타나는 직물류를 대상으로 견직물, 면직물, 마직물로 세분하여 살폈다. 의복류은 의복과 부속 의복으로 나누고 의복은 다시 상의류와 하의류, 외의류로 세분하여 제시하였으며 부속 의복과 장신구류는 제시만 하였다. 3장에서는 의류의 전달 양상을 화폐경제의 정착 양상, 우편제와 소포제의 운영 양상, 의복 시장의 활성화 양상, 전달의 불완전성 양상으로 나누어 살폈다. 20세기를 전후하여 화폐경제가 정착되지만 정국의 불안, 인플레이션 현상, 일제 침탈이 겹치면서 그 속도는 더딜 수밖에 없었다. 물물경제에서 화폐경제로의 이행기 흔적으로는 직물로 화폐를 대신하는 변통의 수단으로 삼았던 것을 확인하였다. 우편제에 비하여 소포제의 정착이 늦어지면서 우정제도 시행 이후에도 상당 기간 개인이 구한 인편에 의한 전달이 지속되었다. 우편제와 소포제가 분리되기 전의 상황에서 ‘빈 살이/빈 하인’ 같은 상투적인 표현이 생긴 것으로 분석하였다. 전달의 불완전성은 ‘추심하다’라는 상투적 표현과 의류에 대한 정확한 치수를 적은 견양을 함께 주고 받는 현상을 중심으로 검토하였다.
