This study examines the possibility of comparative research on Korean and Chinese culture based on literary text focusing on the history of infection culture in the modern age. First of all, this author investigates the possibility of comparative research on Korean and Chinese culture based on the literary text of infection by considering methodology for comparing culture based on the text of infection culture, comparing how Korean and Chinese history of infection culture has developed in the modern age from the perspective of social and cultural studies, and examining the aspects of infectious disease found in modern literary works again. Since the modern times, it has been possible to understand social recognition on the attributes of individual infectious diseases and their influence, too, so it is easy to examine the awareness of writers about infectious disease found in literary works. In the present era, research on the history, prevalence, prevention, and social influence of infectious disease has been carried out more broadly and multilaterally; therefore, it is possible to approach it in relation to the history of culture and literature. The (culture) phenomena of infectious disease have been highlighted already as a crucial issue in various areas such as politics, history, economy, society, and environment and have produced a lot of discourse; however, research related to literature has hardly been conducted systematically yet. This study is critical and practical discourse to cope with the global pandemic event we are presently facing, and it will contribute to not just literature but also social integration and academic convergence in diverse areas including historical studies, philosophy, or politics. Furthermore, by presenting this infectious disease equipped with different characteristics of extension from the previous narrative of disease with new keywords, the matter of infection that has been used as a metaphoric symbol in literature on infectious disease so far can be dealt with more extensively as more complex and political phenomena in society influenced by networks. With this comparison, it is possible to adhere to literary discourse to view East Asia as a single sphere and reexamine writers in Korea and China. Follow-up tasks are to understand interesting phenomena found in infection literature more precisely with practical works written by modern writers in Korea and China.

이 연구는 근대 시기의 감염문화사를 중심으로 문학 텍스트를 통한 한·중 문화 비교 가능 성에 대해서 고찰한 논문이다. 2020년부터 세계를 강타한, 코로나19 팬데믹 사태로 인해 우 리 삶의 환경뿐 아니라 일상도 커다란 변화를 맞고 있다. 의료계뿐만 아니라 정책, 문학, 예 술 등 각 분야별로 감염병에 대한 관점을 공유하고 지식을 축적하고 있으며, 감염병과 인문학 의 관계에 대한 탐색과 연구 또한 다각적으로 요구된다. 이를 위해 본고에서는 문학 속에 나 타난 감염병, 그 중에서도 문학작품에서 가장 빈번하게 등장했던 결핵, 성병, 한센병에 대해 다루려고 한다. 작품에서 차용된 감염병 모티브는 단순히 작중 인물들이 삶과 관계를 맺게 하는 소재적 차원을 뛰어넘어, 한 시대와 사회의 병폐를 가늠해주는 진단시약의 역할까지 감 당하게 된다. 한·중 문학사에서 문학과 질병에 대한 연구는 그동안 상당한 성과를 보였지만 감염병 문 학 연구는 극히 소량에 불과했다. 본고에서는 먼저 감염문학 텍스트를 통한 문화 비교 방법론 에 대해 고찰하고, 이를 위해 한·중 근대 감염문화사를 조망하고, 감염병이 근대 문학의 내 러티브에서 두드러지게 표현되는 양상들을 짚어봄으로써 궁극적으로, 한·중 감염문학의 비 교 가능성에 대해서 타진해 보고자 한다.
