This is a case study in which four nurses practicing a human-centered care model Humanitude for severe dementia patients and four parents of severe dementia patients were the study participants at the first municipal elderly dementia nursing hospital in Korea. A qualitative case study method was applied to analyze the overall understanding and essential meaning of humanitude through new aspects and changes of care by exploring essential cases according to humanitude practice. As a result, it was found that the process of practical application of humanitude was a ‘process of ethical interaction created together based on human rights’. The practice of humanitude was a process in which caregivers formed care that could lead to positive growth and change in the human mutual process of protecting dignity and autonomy, based on the human rights of the subjects. This showed that nurses practicing caring for severe dementia patients constructed individual knowledge obtained from the perspectives, views, and practical experiences of a new humanitude to create positive relationships with the subjects, and their perceptions changed and grew. Based on this case study, we intend to contribute to the spread of an effective human-centered care culture based on the human rights of the subjects in various care practice sites.

본 연구는 국내 최초 시립노인치매요양병원에서 중증치매환자에게 인간중심돌봄 모델인 휴머니튜드를 실천 한 간호사 4명과 중증치매환자의 보호자 4명을 연구참여자로 한 사례연구이다. 휴머니튜드 실천에 따른 본질적 사례를 탐색함으로써 돌봄의 새로운 양상과 변화를 통해 나타난 휴머니튜드의 총체적인 이해와 본질적 의미를 분석하기 위하여 질적 사례연구 방법을 적용하였다. 그 결과 휴머니튜드 실천적용 과정은 ‘인권을 기초로 하여 함께 만들어가는 윤리적인 상호작용의 과정’인 것으로 나타났다. 즉, 휴머니튜드 실천은 돌봄자가 대상자의 인 권을 기반으로 존엄성과 자율성을 보호하는 인간 상호과정에서 긍정적인 성장과 변화가 이뤄질 수 있는 돌봄을 형성해 가는 과정이었다. 이는 중증치매환자에게 돌봄을 실천한 간호사들이 새로운 휴머니튜드의 관점과 견해, 그리고 실천 경험에서 얻은 개별적인 지식을 구성해 나가며 대상자와 긍정적인 관계를 만들어가고, 자신도 인식이 전환되어 성장해 나가는 모습으로 나타났다. 이를 통해 다양한 돌봄 실천 현장에서 대상자의 인권을 기반으로 하는 효과적인 인간중심돌봄 문화가 확산하는 데 이바지하고자 한다.
