Yongundangjeonseo refers to a complete edition compiling all the works and the whole life of Han Yong-un, as an axis of the ‘Manhae Archive Construction Project’, which is conducted by Manhae Research Institute of Dongguk University from July 2021 to June 2026. Starting 2022, this is scheduled to be published in 2026 when it is the 100th anniversary of the The Silence of Love publication. Since the ‘Manhae Han Yong-un Complete Edition Publication Promotion Committee’ was launched in May 1948, there have been constant attempts to compile all the ideas and literary works of Han Yong-un, and as a result, Han Yong-un Complete Edition(1973, 1979, 1980) compiled by Shingumunhwasa and Han Yong-un Literature Collection (2011) compiled by Thaehaksa have been published and studied by many researchers. Yongundangjeonseo compiled by Manhae Research Institute aims to determine the original copy by succeeding to and supplementing the existing collections, and set up right criteria for Han Yong-un studies and open a new horizon by supplying a definitive edition. This paper was written to make a proposal for the publication of Yongundangjeonseo so that the collection compiled by Manhae Research Institute can accomplish its intended goal. As a matter calling for prior settlement, this paper suggests the need to expand annals and the scope included in the main text, establish notations and contents, and newly translate Chinese poetry for readers of the 21st century. It is obvious that the newly complete edition work requires a keen investigation on the old editions for a definitive edition instead of copying types of the old works intact, and should be based on a delicate consideration between the writer’s expressions and readers’ acceptance. It is anticipated that this paper would make a contribution to a fruitful performance of the Yongundangjeonseo publication process.

『용운당전서』는 동국대 만해연구소가 2021년 7월부터 2026년 6월까지 진행 하는 ‘만해 아카이브 구축사업’의 한 축으로, 한용운의 전모를 집대성하는 전집 을 지칭한다. 2022년 착수하여 2026년 『님의 침묵』 발간 100주년이 되는 해 간행 예정이다. 1948년 5월 ‘만해한용운전집 간행추진위원회’ 발족 이후 한용 운의 사상과 문학을 망라하려는 시도는 꾸준했고, 그 결과 신구문화사본 『한용 운전집』(1973, 1979, 1980)과 태학사본 『한용운문학전집』(2011) 등이 발간되어 숱한 연구자들의 연구대상으로 활약해왔다. 만해연구소본 『용운당전서』는 기존 전집들을 계승·보완하여 정본을 확정하고, 결정판을 보급하여 한용운 연구의 올바른 기준을 세우고 새로운 지평을 여 는 데 목적이 있다. 본고에서는 만해연구소본 『용운당전서』가 소기 목적을 달 성할 수 있도록 『용운당전서』 발간을 위한 제언을 하고자 했다. 선결문제로 연 보와 본문 수록 범위의 확정을 제시했고, 21세기 독자들을 배려하는 표기·내용 의 확립과 한시의 새 번역을 제안했다. 새로운 전집 작업이 단순히 옛 저작의 활자를 그대로 옮겨오는 작업이 아니라 정본 확정을 위한 치열한 판본 탐구를 필요로 한다는 점, 작가의 표현과 독자의 수용 사이에서 섬세한 배려를 기반으 로 진행되어야 한다는 점은 자명하다. 동국대 만해연구소가 『용운당전서』 간행 과정을 내실 있게 수행할 수 있기를 바란다.
