The purpose of this study is to study the historical facts of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in Buan, the identity of the Buan region, and the cultural contents of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in Buan. For this purpose, documents, testimonies, and historic sites of the historical and cultural resources of the Donghak Peasant Revolution in Buan were examined. It is necessary to produce a map of Baeksan Assembly as one of the series that can clearly understand the process of the early development of the Donghak Peasant Revolution, centering on the Baeksan Congress, which symbolizes the Donghak Peasant Revolution in Buan. At the same time, the Donghak Peasant Revolution in Buan, the Buan Righteous army of the Korean Empire, and the independence movement during the Japanese colonial period can be combined to establish a modern history of national movements in the Buan region, and ways to sublimate the “Buan National Movement History Park” can be explored. Poems and songs about the Donghak Peasant Revolution in Buan, which had just begun, were not known to the public. Therefore, it is necessary to not only publicize these contents widely in the future, but also to prepare opportunities to engage with the public. It is necessary to develop new content while actively utilizing the content to be developed. The Donghak Peasant Revolution Baeksan Literary Award was awarded as one of the popular ways to further expand the image embodied in ‘Sit down, it’s Juksan, if you stand up, it’s Baeksan’ and Choi Si-hyeong’s doctrine that ‘flowers will bloom in Buan and bear fruit in Buan’. It should be enacted, and serious consideration should be given to operating a “Poet School” or “Creative Classroom” in which popular literary figures such as poets and novelists participate. The Donghak Peasant Revolution researcher who majored in history gives priority to historical facts. On the other hand, non-majors give priority to content proposals with brand and symbolization. Therefore, the importance of joint research or collaboration combining the two cannot be overemphasized.

본 연구는 부안 동학농민혁명의 역사적 사실과 부안지역의 정체성, 부안 동학농민혁명 문화콘텐츠를 연구하는 데 있다. 이를 위해서 부안 동학농민혁명 역사문화자원을 문헌과 증언록, 그리고 유적지를 살펴보았다. 부안 동학농민혁명을 상징하는 백산대회를 중심으로 동학농민혁명 초기 전개 과정을 일목요연하게 이해할 수 있는 연작의 하나로 백산대회도를 제작할 필요가 있다. 이와 함께 부안 동학농민혁명, 대한제국기 부안 의병, 일제강점기 독립운동을 한데 묶어 근대 부안지역 민족운동사로 정립하고, 「부안 민족운동 역사공원」 승화시킬 방안도 모색할 수 있다. 이제 막 걸음마를 시작한 부안 동학농민혁명을 소재로 한 시와 노래는 대중에게 알려지지 않았다. 따라서 향후 이들 콘텐츠를 널리 알리는 홍보는 물론 대중과 함께 할 기회를 마련하는 것이 필요하다. 기왕 개발할 콘텐츠를 적극적으로 활용하면서 새로운 콘텐츠를 개발하는 것이 필요하다. ‘앉으면 죽산이요, 일어서면 백산이라’로 형상화된 이미지와 ‘부안에서 꽃이 피고, 부안에서 결실을 보리라’는 최시형의 법설을 더욱 확장하는 대중적인 방법의 하나로 「동학농민혁명 백산 문학상」을 제정하고, 시인과 소설가 등 대중성이 강한 문학인들이 참여하는 「시인학교」나 「창작교실」 등을 운영하는 방안을 진지하게 고민해야 한다. 이와 함께 역사학을 전공한 동학농민혁명 연구자는 역사적 사실을 우선하는 반면에, 비전공자들은 역사적 사실보다 브랜드와 상징화를 내세운 콘텐츠 제안을 우선한다는 지적을 받아들여, 양자를 결합한 공동연구나 협업의 중요성은 아무리 강조해도 지나치지 않다.
