The world of today was integrated into one living zone beyond the dimension of a mutual exchange simply among countries, thereby having become the era that any race or nation cannot survive independently. Therefore, to proceed with living in the age of globalization, the attitude and the ability of trying to understand about diverse cultures and values, which exist in the world, are essentially demanded and were magnified as the necessary quality. Learning the world history makes us available for rightly understanding history and culture in many countries of the world and for broadening the width of international understanding and international sense through this. Furthermore, learning the world history can lead to being able to more correctly grasp what the distinctiveness and the universality of Korean history are. There have been many researches on history textbook so far. But there are many cases of being limited mostly to national history textbook. Thus, the world history is in a situation of being few in its compilations compared to Korean history. The elements other than history textbook are having great influence upon forming the historical consciousness. For example, above all, even a question about how much one country and society are giving importance and putting value in history education may be much varied every country. It is also what can be called a level of 'memory culture' in one country or society on the whole. Accordingly, to understand Korean history harmoniously from the position of world history with escaping from a nationalistic sight, the education of world history is needed. There will be a need to be carried out history education that understands both distinctiveness in national history and the generality in universal history. By the way, a matter is that it is not so in the reality of world-history education based on curriculum. The curriculum of world history was clearly stated to sublate the history that was conventionally biased to the focus of Chinese history and European history while passing through the 6th and 7th courses. Hence, this study aims to consider into which direction the description of German history is changed in a field of Western history, which was curtailed among the whole contents of world history. This research is considered to be likely helpful for grasping the distinctiveness and the universality of German history amidst the curriculum of world history.

오늘날 세계는 단순히 국가 간의 상호 교류의 차원을 넘어서 하나의 생활 권으로 통합되어 어떤 민족이나 국가도 독자적으로 생존할 수 없는 시대가 되었다. 그러므로 세계화 시대에 살아가기 위해서는 세계에 존재하는 다양한 문화와 가치에 대하여, 그것을 이해하려는 태도와 능력이 필수적으로 요구되 며, 필요한 자질로서 부각되었다. 우리는 세계사를 학습하면서 세계 여러 나 라의 역사와 문화를 올바르게 이해할 수 있고, 이를 통하여 국제 이해와 국제 적 감각의 폭을 넓힐 수 있다. 나아가 세계사 학습을 통하여 한국사의 특수성 과 보편성이 무엇인지를 보다 정확하게 파악할 수 있다. 지금까지 역사 교과서에 대한 연구는 많았지만 대부분 국사 교과서에 국한 된 경우가 많아 세계사의 경우 국사에 비해 그 편수가 적은 상황이다. 역사 의식의 형성에 있어서는 역사교과서 이외의 요소들이 많은 영향을 미치고 있 다. 우선 예를 들면 한 국가와 사회가 역사 교육에 얼마나 많은 중요성을 부여 하고 가치를 두고 있는가의 문제도 나라마다 매우 다를 수 있다. 그것은 전반 적으로 한 국가나 사회의 ‘기억문화’의 수준이라고 불릴 수 있는 것이기도 하 다. 따라서 한국사를 국수주의적 시각에서 벗어나 세계사적 입장에서 균형 있게 이해하기 위해서는 세계사 교육이 필요하고, 민족사의 특수성과 보편사 적 일반성을 함께 이해하는 역사교육이 실시되어야 할 것이다. 그런데 문제 는 교육과정에 준한 세계사 교육의 현실이 그렇지 못하다는 것이다. 세계사 교육과정은 6차와 7차 과정을 거치면서 기존에 중국사 및 유럽사 중심의 편중된 역사를 지양할 것을 명시했다. 이에 따라 본 논문에서는 세계사 전체 내용 중 축소된 서양사 분야에서 독일사의 서술이 어떤 방향으로 변 화되는지를 고찰해 보고자 한다. 이러한 연구는 세계사 교과과정 속에서 독일사의 특수성과 보편성을 파악하는데 도움이 될 것이라고 보인다.
