Under the emerging emphasis of multicultural education in South Korea, theoretical and empirical studies on the topic have been discussed in many areas. Among these studies, two books to portray the lives of elementary students of multicultural families and stories of elementary teachers to teach those students through extra-teaching and coaching are choosen for the examplar text of thought and reflection since two books based on qualitative research, closely discuss the students’ cultural, social, and academic development both in their families and in schools. Through qualitative analysis of the texts, and use of philosophical ideas from postmodern and postcolonial theorization, four findings were identified as a practical knowledge to discuss the future of multiculutral education studies in South Korea. First, two books raise the question that multicultural education is suitable for Korean situation and characteristics. Second, two books enabled Korean scholars and practitioners to deconstruct their hidden colonized attitude on the race, identity, and ethnicity. Thirdly, the texts pushed them to pose questions on the validity of research methods, processes and interpretation on the studies on multicultural education phenomena. Fourth, the second book was valuable in allowing Korean researchers to recognize the importance academic success of students in multicultural families and to identify the ways to improve.

이 연구는 한국 다문화교육 연구 텍스트를 분석함으로써 다문화교육 담론에서 제기 될 수 있는 이슈를 개념화하였다. 이를 위해 질적 연구의 한 방법인 문서분석 방법을 활용하여 《가장 검은 눈동자》와 《한국 다문화아동 가르치기》 두 권의 저서에 대한 질 적 분석을 시도하였다. 이러한 연구 목적을 달성하기 위해 첫째, 한국에서 출간된 기존의 다문화교육 연구 텍스트를 비판적으로 분석하였다. 그 결과, 기존의 텍스트들이 가진 한계와 문제점을 제시하고, 이 연구에서 선정된 두 권의 텍스트가 기존의 연구와 어떤 차이가 있는지를 구체적으로 제시하였다. 둘째 두 권의 연구 텍스트가 한국 다문화교육의 연구와 실천 에 제기할 수 있는 문제, 의미와 가치, 활용 가능성 등을 중심으로 다음 네 가지 주제로 규명하였다: 1) 한국적 상황과 특징에 대한 접합성의 비판, 2) 기존 다문화교육 연구지 식의 해체, 3) 다문화교육 연구자의 자기성찰, 4) 다문화아동의 학업성취 방법의 탐색. 셋째, 이러한 연구 결과가 한국 다문화교육의 연구와 실천에 주는 시사점을 구체적으로 제시하였다.
