This study is aimed to provide basic data for multicultural education. The purpose of this study is to study the influence of middle school students' self-esteem and community sense on multicultural sensitivity. The research will show how middle school students’ general background variables, their self-esteem based on the individual values, and their community senses solving together the group’s common aims and benefits work on their multicultural sensitivity. In this research three middle school students located in Jeollabuk-do were sampled through wireless sampling, and the data of 287 finalists were analyzed. Data processing was analyzed using the SPSS 24.0 program. The conclusions are following : First, as a result of analyzing the variables of middle school students, there are significant differences in the self-esteem and community sense according to their grades and their satisfaction levels of their school lives. The result of analysis in the level of middle school students’recognition of multicultural sensibility says that female students are higher than male students relatively in multicultural sensitivity, and by school grades students in the lower grades have the higher multicultural sensitivity. Second, the influence on multicultural sensitivity with middle school students' self-esteem is found positively. Especially the social self-esteem, common in diversity, relativity, and universality that are the sub factors of self-esteem is found to be influenced the most. Third, in the interrelation between the factors of multicultural sensitivity and those of community sense, the factors of unity and mutual effect are the most influentials. And the influence of the independent variables to dependent ones tells that the higher sense of community results in the higher multicultural sensitivity. The conclusions and suggestions for increasing the multicultural sensitivity of middle school students in this research are following : First, multicultural sensitivity is high in female students and first graders who just started middle school life and also the multicultural sensitivity depends on the students’ school life satisfaction. It says that the reorganization of diverse, relevant curriculum without the differentiation of sex, realistic and consistent programs for the harmonious relationship between friends and teachers are needed essentially at school. Second, self-esteem and community sense are confirmed to be important factors influencing on multicultural sensitivity. So it is necessary to give more chances for the enhancement of multicultural sensitivity and extend the numbers of facilities with various multicultural experience programs through the close solidarity between school and society. Third, among the sub-factors of multicultural sensitivity, diversity was found to influence highly on it. So the follow-up researches to cultivate self-esteem and community sense are needed considering adolescents brought up in many different families and societies.

중학생의 자아존중감과 공동체의식이 다문화감수성에 미치는 영향에 대해 연구 하는데 목적이 있다. 정체성이 형성되고 있는 중학생을 대상으로 개인적 배경 변 인, 자기 자신에 대해 가치를 두고 소중한 존재로 인식하는 평가적인 개념인 자아 존중감과 구성원들 사이의 결집으로 공동의 이해와 목적을 함께 풀어가는 공동체 의식이 다문화 감수성에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보고자 하였다. 본 연구의 대상은 전북지역 세 학교의 중학생을 대상으로 무선 표집하여 설문조 사를 실시하였고, 최종 287명의 자료를 분석하였다. 이에 대한 연구 결과와 제언은 다음과 같다. 첫째, 성별에서는 여학생, 학년에서는 중학교 생활을 시작하는 1학년에서 다문 화 감수성이 높게 나타났고, 학교생활 만족도에 따라 다문화 감수성에 차이가 있는 것으로 확인되었다. 따라서 성별에 차이를 두지 않은 다양하고 균형 있는 교육과정 개편과 학교에서 친구, 교사 간의 원만한 관계를 위한 현실적이고 지속적인 교육프로그램이 절실히 필요하다. 둘째, 자아존중감과 공동체의식은 다문화 감수성에 영향을 미치고 있음이 확인 되었다. 따라서 학교와 사회의 긴밀한 연대로 중학생들 다문화 감수성 증진을 위한 다양한 다문화 체험 프로그램을 할 수 있는 시설과 기회의 확장을 도모할 필요가 있다. 셋째, 다문화 감수성 하위요인 중에서, 다양성 요소가 다문화 감수성에 영향력이 높은 것으로 파악되었다. 따라서 다양한 환경에서 성장하는 청소년을 생각할 때, 자아존중감과 공동체의식 증진을 위한 후속 연구가 필요하다.
