This paper first examines the current patterns of Philosophy for Children(P4C) movements and researches across the world. In some countries P4C researches and movements have been influenced by IAPC model based upon pragmatism. In other countries, however, P4C researches and movements have been strongly influenced by post-modernism and post-humanism as well as IAPC model. Besides, regardless of the influences of post-modernism, most of P4C researchers stress the importance of fostering reasoning skills in P4C classes, according to my analyses of ICPIC journals. This means that despite of a variety of philosophical perspectives most of P4C researchers agree upon the importance of enhancing critical thinking skills in building P4C community of inquiry. In the end this paper propose that it is time to make a philosophical re-examination of Matthew Lipman’s model of critical thinking to integrate and regulate the current patterns of P4C in the desirable direction.

본 연구는 해외에서의 어린이철학교육이 어떻게 전개되고 있는가를 검토해 보는 것을 목적으로 한다. 해외에서는 프래그머티즘에 기반한 미국의 IAPC 어린이철학교육 모델이 여전히 많은 영향력을 미치고 있는 가운데, 다른 한 편 포스트모더니즘과 포스트휴머니즘 관점에서 ICPIC에서의 어린이철학에 대한 연구들이 활발하게 이루어지고 있다. 또한 ICPIC에서 합리성에 기반한 추론교육을 강조하는 어린이철학교육 모델도 공존하고 있어 해외에서의 P4C는 다양한 철학적 관점에 입각해서 어린이철학교육에 접근하고 있음을 알 수 있다. 본 연구는 P4C의 다원화 양상에 대한 검토를 통해 비판적 사고와 관련해서 립맨의 어린이철학에 대한 연구가 요청됨을 제안한다.
