In recent times, education 4.0 emerges indicating the paradigm shift occurs in the area of education at the early stage of 21st century. Education 4.0 is originated from an ecosystem that is consisted of a couple of technologies, such as educational data mining, learning analytics, machine learning, Internet of Things(IoT), and cloud computing. With the help of those technologies, intelligent tutoring system and other variants of ITS emerges. Historically, artificial intelligence has been applied to the area of education. For a couple of decades, AIED has evolved in the form of computer aided education and intelligent tutoring system(ITS). In recent times, ITS begins to generate diverse kinds of new versions of ITS, including emotional intelligent tutoring system, cultural awareness model, and game-based model. However, education 4.0 has a couple of limitations. First, education 4.0 has the possibility of discouraging the element of creativeness of human being. Second, educational 4.0 may deprive freedom of learning from students within a learning environment.

인공지능이 주축이 된 제4차 산업혁명이 진행되고 있다. 이러한 산업부문의 제4차 산업혁명은 교육부문에도 영향을 주고 있다. 최근에 인공지능 기술을 교육에 적용 응용시키는 움직임이 있다. 이를 ｢교육 4.0｣이라고 부르고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 변화를 단순한 인공지능기술의 적용이라고 보지 않으며, 이는 교육패러다임을 변화시키는 것이라고 해석한다. 왜냐하면, 인공지능 기술 은 인공지능 기술단독으로 성립하지 않으며 블록체인, 사물인터넷 등 다양한 기반 기술이 기술생태계를 이루어 발전하기 때문이다. 본 연구는 이러한 움직임 을 살펴보고자 한다. 그 결과 인공지능은 기계학습, 학습분석학, 교육데이터마 이닝 등 새롭게 발전하고 있다. 이러한 발전은 교육 분야에서 채점, 튜터, 학습 자의 육체상태를 고려한 진도의 조절 등 직접적으로 교수분야에서 큰 변화를 초래하고 있고, 학사행정 등 여러 분야에서 다양하게 사용되고 있음을 보여주고 있다.
