This study aims to verify the influence of empathy of creative arts therapists on their professional development and the mediating effect of their self-reflection to this causal relationship. The survey data collected from 267 creative arts therapists were analyzed using the SPSS 25.0 program and the SPSS PROCESS macro to address the research purpose. The findings can be summarized as follows: First, the hypothesis that the empathy of creative arts therapists would affect their levels of professional development was verified. Second, the hypothesis that the self-reflection of creative arts therapists would mediate the relationship between empathy and professional development was also supported. The findings of this study imply that if a creative art therapist’s empathic ability is not high enough, self-reflection trainings can be helpful in enhancing her or his professional development. This study carries significance in that it proves important information on factors closely related to professional development of creative art therapists.

본 연구의 목적은 예술치료사의 공감능력, 자기성찰 수준, 전문성 발달수준 간의 구조적 관계를 검증하 는 것이다. 이를 위하여 예술치료와 관련된 자격증을 소지한 예술치료 전문가와 임상 훈련 과정 중인 예술치료 전공생을 대상으로 온라인 설문조사를 실시하였고, 결측치를 제외한 267개의 응답을 분석 자 료로 활용하였다. 수집된 자료는 SPSS 25.0 프로그램으로 통계 분석하였고, SPSS PROCESS macro 로 최종 산출결과의 간접효과를 검증하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 예술치료사의 공감 능력은 전문성 발달수준에 정적인 영향을 미쳤다. 둘째, 예술치료사의 공감능력과 전문성 발달수준의 관계를 자기성찰 수준이 매개하였다. 본 연구의 의의는 치료성과와 직결된 치료사의 공감능력과 상관 없이 지속적인 성찰과정으로 전문성을 함양할 수 있다는 가능성을 검증하여 예술치료 훈련가들에게 전 문성 발달수준과 관련된 치료사 요인에 관한 정보를 제공하였다는 것이다.
