This study reviews the results of existing research of passive construction in the middle and modern Korean period into seven issues, and suggests future tasks. The seven issues are as follows: 1) Was there a passive verb in the period before the late middle Korean?; 2) The background of the development of the passive verb that appeared in the late middle Korean period; 3) The analysis method of passive suffix; 4) The historical existence aspect of the double passive expression; 5) The historical usage patterns of lexical passive verbs such as ‘doeda’ and ‘nipda’; 6) Correlation between passive and causative; 7) The semantic types of passive sentences. If research results in various fields are accepted and used as a tool for observing historical data, and data from the early 20th century and manuscript data are included in the research subjects, new and diverse research results on passives can be produced.

이 글은 중세·근대국어 시기의 피동문에 대한 연구 성과를 7가지 쟁점으로 정리하고, 앞으로의 과제를 제시한 것이다. 7가지 쟁점은 다음과 같다. 1) 후기 중세국어 이전 시기의 피동사 존재 여부, 2) 후기 중세국어 시기에 등장한 피동사의 발달 배경, 3) 피동 접미사의 이형태 설정 및 분석 방법, 4) 이중 피동 표현의 역사적 존재 양상, 5) 어휘적 피동사 ‘되다’, ‘닙다’ 등의 역사적 사용 양상, 6) 피동과 사동의 상관성, 7) 피동문의 의미 유형. 앞으로 다양한 분야의 연구 성과를 받아들여 역사적 자료를 관찰할 수 있는 도구로 활용하고, 20세기 초기 자료 및 필사본 자료를 연구 대상에 포함한다면 피동에 대한 새롭고 다양한 연구 성과를 산출해 낼 수 있을 것이다.
