The purpose of this study is to examine the reports of Japanese newspapers and media at the time of May 18, 1980, the reaction of Japanese-Koreans, and the repercussions of groups of Koreans living abroad. As a research method, data were collected on reports and responses in Japanese newspapers and magazines, and representative opinions were analyzed. The research results are as follows. First, as a result of analyzing the editorials of the three major newspapers in Japan, it was pointed out that the people's resistance, opposition to the succession of the Yushin system, antipathy and distrust of the South Korean military, etc. were asserted, and that we should listen to the demands of the people. Second, regarding the reaction of Japanese-Koreans Mindan and Chongryon, Mindan asked for Mindan's opinion on the Gwangju May 18 Democratic Uprising, and Chongryon criticized the distortion of the Japanese people's democratic uprising. Third, in response to the 5.18 Democratic Uprising by overseas Korean groups, the editorial 'Is America Really Our Friend?' argued that we should fight for human rights, democracy and reunification by breaking away from the illusion of the United States.
