This study examined elementary school students' behavioral emotion regulation strategies as a buffering moderator of the relationship between optimism and subjective well-being. A total of 345 fourth- and fifth-grade students in South Korea participated and, the latent moderated structural equations (LMS) approach was used. Results indicated that the model fit the data adequately, and behavioral emotion regulation strategies significantly moderated the relationship between optimism and subjective well-being. This finding highlights behavioral emotion regulation strategies as a protective factor buffering the relationship between low optimism and low subjective well-being among students. Interventions to facilitate the use of adaptive behavioral emotion regulation strategies are recommended for elementary school students with low optimism. Limitations of this study and future research directions are discussed.

이 연구는 초등학생의 낙관성과 주관적 안녕감의 관계에서 행동적 정서조절방략의 완충적 조절효과를 검증하는 데 목적을 두었다. 초등학교 4, 5학년 학생 354명이 연구에 참여하였다. 잠재조절구조방정식(latent moderated structural equations, LMS) 기법을 사용하여 자료를 분석한 결과, 우수한 모형 적합도와 함께 완충적 조절효과가 유의한 것으로 나타났다. 낙관성이 낮 은 학생일수록 더 낮은 수준의 주관적 안녕감을 보였는데, 이러한 양상은 학생의 행동적 정 서조절방략 수준에 따라 강도 면에서 상이했다. 행동적 정서조절방략 점수가 낮은 학생들에 게서는 낮은 낙관성과 낮은 주관적 안녕감의 관계가 더 강하게 나타난 데 반해 행동적 정서 조절방략의 수준이 높은 학생들에게는 그 강도가 상대적으로 약하게 나타났다. 이 결과는 행 동적 정서조절방략이 낙관성과 주관적 안녕감의 관계를 유의하게 완충하였음을 의미한다. 행 동적 정서조절방략에서 안녕감에 이르는 직접경로도 유의하였는데, 이는 행동적 정서조절방 략이 완충적 조절변인뿐만 아니라 직접적인 요인으로도 초등학생의 주관적 안녕감에 기여할 가능성을 시사한다. 끝으로 이 연구가 학교 및 상담에서 갖는 시사점과 후속연구에 대한 방향을 제안하였다.
