This study is purposed to explore the meaning and effect of the comments, “JEOM-EUL-JJIGEU- SE-YO(make a dot),” a language used by theater director Ko Neung-seok at the education field for acting art. As the qualitative research based on interview and participant observation, this researcher participated in the theater education program during 32 months and collected data and it was analyzed inductively. By the results of this research, 1) JEOM(Dot) has various meanings: pause, stop, highlighting, closing, recognizing, object, communication, maintaining, concentraiting, etc. This can again be classified into 4 dimensions: point, line, plane, and particle. It is also classified into 5 categories or dimensions: time, space, existence, relationship, and energy. 2) The directing about the JEOM was inherent in the acting philosophy that actors should approach objectively and sensibly without acting in emotions and expressions so that the audience could feel the emotions. 3) Jeom method has the effect: Just by being conscious of a hypothetical dot or perceiving it with sense, acting became more natural. It has 5 characteristics as well: specificity, ease, sensibility, stepwise, and it changes the perspective or approach of acting.

본 연구는 연기예술 교육 현장에서 연극연출가 고능석이 사용하는 언어인 “점을 찍으세요”라는 코멘트를 분석, 그 의미와 효과를 탐색하는 것을 목적으로 수행되었다. 연구자는 총 32개월간 연극교육프로그램 수강생의 위치에서 강사와 다른 수강생을 연구 참여자로 선정하여 면담, 참 여관찰을 통해 수집한 자료를 귀납적 코딩 절차에 따라 분석되었다. 연구결과 첫째, 점에는 사 이, 정지, 강조, 종결, 인식, 대상, 주고받기, 유지, 집중 등 다양한 의미가 있었으며 이는 다시 점･선･면･4개 차원의 점으로, 시간･공간･존재･관계･에너지라는 5개 범주 또는 차원으로 분류 할 수 있었다. 둘째, 점 메소드 연출은 관객이 정서를 느낄 수 있도록 배우가 감정과 표현에 함 몰되지 말고 연기에 객관적・감각적으로 접근해야 한다는 연기철학을 내재하고 있었다. 셋째, 점 메소드에서 가상의 점을 감각적으로 인식하는 것으로 연기가 더 자연스러워지는 효과와 함 께 구체성, 용이성, 감각적, 단계적, 연기에 대한 접근법과 관점의 전환이라는 다섯 가지 특성을 찾을 수 있었다.
