The purpose of this study is to develop an elementary school play unit program using reading whole works and explore its effects. The researcher analyzed the achievement standards of the second semester of elementary school 5th semester drama and reading unit, and developed a theater unit program that utilized the reading of the whole work for 24 sessions according to the stage of 'Grasp-Imagination-Act'. The developed program was applied to 13 students in one class of 5th grade elementary school in which the researcher is currently working. As a result of conducting interviews with five main research participants, the effectiveness of the program was derived as follows. First, the drama class expressed through the body gave interest to learning, and the passive students became more active. Second, he showed interest in literature and deeply grasps literature by unfolding imagination and examining it in depth through reading the whole work. Third, the class using theatrical techniques based on an understanding of the work, rather than the play-oriented class, was effective in helping students reach various standards of achievement in the Department of Korean Language. Based on these results, it is expected that various approaches to the instruction of the theater unit in the dimension of reading the whole work will be made, and the concrete teaching method will proceed.

본 연구의 목적은 온작품 읽기를 활용한 초등학교 연극 단원 프로그램을 개발하고 그 효과를 탐색하는 것이다. 연구자는 초등 5학년 2학기 연극 및 독서 단원의 성취기준을 분석하여 ‘텍스 트 파악-상상-표현’의 단계에 따라 24차시 분량의 온작품 읽기를 활용한 연극 단원 프로그램을 개발하였다. 개발된 프로그램은 연구자가 재직 중인 초등학교 5학년 1개 학급 13명을 대상으로 적용하였다. 주 연구참여자 5명을 대상으로 인터뷰를 실시한 결과 다음과 같은 프로그램의 효 과를 도출할 수 있었다. 첫째, 몸을 통해 표현하는 연극 수업은 학습에 흥미를 부여하였으며 소 극적인 학생들도 훨씬 활동적으로 변화하였다. 둘째, 온작품 읽기를 통해 상상을 펼치고 깊이 있게 살펴봄으로써 문학에 관심을 가지고 문학을 깊이 있게 파악하는 모습을 보였다. 셋째, 연 극 놀이 위주의 수업이 아닌 한 작품에 대한 이해를 바탕으로 한 연극 기법 활용 수업은 학생들 이 국어과의 여러 성취기준에 도달하는 데 효과적이었다. 이러한 결과를 바탕으로 연극 단원의 지도에 대한 온작품 읽기 차원에서의 다양한 접근이 이루어져 지도 방법의 구체화가 진행되기를 기대해본다.
