Technological innovation-led economic growth is being emphasized for increased productivity and economic recovery, and Korea is making efforts to establish a technological innovation system at national and regional level for sustainable growth and balanced development. Therefore, this study analyzes the effect of technological innovation factors on regional economic growth in 16 metropolitan cities in Korea from 2000 to 2019. In particular, the AMG(Augmented Mean Group) estimation method was used to confirm the cross-sectional dependence of panel data and the existence of heterogeneous coefficients by region. As a results, we find that technological innovation has a positive effect on economic growth. It implies that the relationship between technological innovation and economic growth can be explained by the endogenous economic growth theory. Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen regional technological innovation capabilities through expansion of regional R&D investment resources and the establishment of regional technological innovation infrastructure for regional economic growth. We also propose institutional improvement measures for the promotion of technological innovation activities and efficient promotion of regional R&D.

세계적으로 생산성 증가와 경제회복을 위해 기술혁신 주도의 경제성장이 강조되고 있 으며, 우리나라 역시 지속가능한 성장과 균형발전을 위해 국가와 지역 차원에서 기술혁 신체계 구축에 힘쓰고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 2000년부터 2019년까지 우리나라 16개 광역 시·도를 대상으로 기술혁신 요인이 지역경제성장에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석하였다. 특 히 패널 데이터의 지역 간 횡단면 의존성과 지역별 이질적 계수의 존재를 확인하고, 이를 고려하는 AMG(Augmented Mean Group) 추정법을 활용하였다. 분석결과, 기술혁신은 지역경제성장에 긍정적인 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났으며, 이 는 내생적 경제성장이론에 의해 기술혁신과 경제성장 간의 관계를 설명할 수 있음을 의 미한다. 따라서 지역 R&D 투자재원의 확대, 지역 내 기술혁신 인프라 구축 등을 통해 지역의 기술혁신 역량을 강화해야하며, 기술혁신 활동의 촉진과 지역 R&D의 효율적인 추진을 위한 제도적 개선방안을 모색할 필요가 있다.
