The purpose of this study is to provide basic data and to present developmental revision directions for frequent revision of the Korean physical education curriculum by comparing and analyzing the curriculum revision direction of elementary schools in Korea, the United States, and Japan. This study was studied according to the technical case study methodology that describes, juxtaposes, and compares specific contents of the curriculum in the physical education and expression area of the comparative target country. The results of this study are as follows. Unlike dance classes in Korea in the area of expression within the elementary school physical education curriculum, dance classes in the United States are conducted as independent regular arts courses in schools. In Korea, efforts are needed to find identity in the area of expression (dance) in elementary school as an independent regular art subject such as art and music. Japan's expression area consists of expression, rhythm, and fork dance regardless of grade. Korea needs an integrated method of organizing areas considering the linkage between grades. Japan deals with improvisation in all grades. In Korea, it is necessary not only to introduce improvisational expressions, but also to organize and present works through them. In addition, in Korea, it is necessary to think about activities included in dance and activities that are not included in dance so that it can establish itself as dance education without losing its identity.

본 연구는 한·미·일 초등학교 체육과 표현 영역 교육과정 비교분석을 통한 교육과정 개정 방향 탐색으로 한국, 미 국, 일본의 표현 영역 및 무용 교육과정을 비교·분석함으로써 앞으로 한국 체육과 교육과정 수시 개정에 필요한 기 초 자료 제공과 발전적인 개정 방향을 제시하는데 그 목적이 있다. 본 연구는 비교대상국의 체육과 표현 영역 교육 과정의 목표, 구성, 내용 영역에 대한 구체적인 내용을 기술, 병치 및 비교하는 기술적 사례연구방법론에 따라 연구 되었다. 본 연구의 결과는 다음과 같다. 한국에서 무용 수업이 초등학교 체육과 교육과정 내에 표현 영역으로 이루 어지는 것과 달리, 미국의 무용 수업은 학교에서 이루어지는 독립된 예술 정규교과로서 진행된다. 한국은 초등학교 표현 영역(무용)이 미술, 음악과 같이 독립된 정규예술교과로서 정체성을 찾을 수 있는 노력이 필요하다. 일본의 표 현 영역은 학년에 관계없이 표현계, 리듬계, 포크댄스로 이루어져 있고, 전 학년에서 즉흥 표현을 다루고 있다. 한 국에서도 즉흥 표현을 도입하여 즉흥 표현뿐만 아니라 이를 통해 작품을 구성하고 발표하는 과정이 필요하다. 또한 한국에서는 무용의 정체성을 잃지 않고 무용교육으로서 자리잡을 수 있도록 무용에 포함되는 활동과 그렇지 않은 활동에 대해 나누어 생각해볼 필요가 있고, 학년 간 연계성을 고려한 영역 통합적 구성 방법이 필요하다.
