This study first identified the current status and arrangement method of Korean Rare book that have been handed down in Korea, and reviewed the application of several practical standard items, including the time of issuance, Types of Printing materials, paper and binding. In principle, the criteria for the publication of Rare book published before 1910 is applied to the 2.3 million books, but it can be confirmed that the large proportion of books after 1911 are classified as Rare book and there are many things that can be included in the future. Therefore, based on some of the characteristics used as basis in this paper, various statistical data were used to approach with the goal of establishing new standards for Rare book. In particular, as a solution to the uncertainty of incorporation of books or Documents after 1911, the category was proposed to expand the duration until 1945 and the basis was presented. In addition, through the application of major items for setting standards of Types of Printing materials, Paper and Binding, the necessity of classifying 'modern Rare book' within the category of Rare book was also studied along with the expansion of the category at the time of issuance of Rare book. Also, it was revealed that although, in principle, the year for the Rare book was set in 1945, it was necessary to include in the Rare book and manage them separately if the required standards for the Types of Printing materials, Paper and Binding were met. Among the data after 1946, it is necessary to present and prepare standards for each type of case such as each Types of Printing materials, Paper and Binding. for the value to be included in the Rare book.

이 연구는 현재까지 국내에 전해지고 있는 한국 고문헌의 현황과 정리방식을 먼저 파악하고, 고문헌의 기준 범위 설정에 필요한 발행 시기, 판본, 종이, 장정 등 실질적인 몇 가지 기준항목에 대한 적용을 검토한 것이다. 현재까지 약 230만여 책에 이르는 고문헌은 그 기준을 1910년 이전 발행 문헌임을 원칙적으로 적용하고 있지만, 1911년 이후 자료로서 고문헌으로 수록한 책의 비중이 높고, 앞으로도 포함할 만한 것이 매우 많은 것을 확인할 수 있다. 따라서 본 고에서는 근거로 삼은 몇 가지 특징을 바탕으로 고문헌의 새 기준 마련이라는 목표를 삼고, 각종 통계자료를 활용하여 접근하였다. 특히 1911년 이후 문헌의 편입 불확실성에 대한 해결책으로 1945년까지 그 범주를 확대하는 것을 제안하고 그 근거를 제시하였다. 그리고 판본, 종이, 장정 등 기준 설정을 위한 주요 항목의 적용을 통해서, 고문헌 발행 시기 범주의 확장과 함께 고문헌 범주 내에서 ‘근대고문헌’의 구분의 필요성도 언급하였다. 또한 1945년이라는 발행년도는 원칙으로 정하되, 그 이후의 것도 장정과 판본, 종이의 기준에 부합하면 고문헌에 포함 시키고 별도 관리할 필요가 있음을 밝혔다. 1946년 이후 자료 중에 고문헌에 포함시킬 만한 가치를 지니는 것에 대한 기준은 각 판본, 종이, 장정 등 각 유형의 사례별로 제시하여 마련해 둘 필요가 있다.
